I have been in the mental health field since 1995. Because of my many years working with people in crisis, I have become skilled in sifting through the confusion and disorder that is often present in difficult situations, to find out what the primary issues are.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). We all face seasons of hardship—loss of career or loved ones, divorce, parenting struggles, trauma, or broken relationships—that can leave us weary and searching for hope. As a Christian counselor, I believe God’s promises bring light even in dark times. I walk with clients as they heal from abuse, rebuild confidence, and rediscover their identity in Christ. Others seek support in managing stress, improving relationships, and creating a life filled with peace, purpose, and hope.

If you have anxiety for the future, depression from your past, feeling alienated and other intrusive thoughts I can help you better understand their origin. What drives me is helping you discover the sources for your emotional conundrums and entanglements. These life riddles can be tamed so that they do not continue to rule your days. Isolation with these matters only serves to create more distance between you and managing your life. What I do is give you the tools to cut through the twisted patterns of your life and create the new path.

It's easy for things to get in the way. Things get in the way of finding time for calm, being true to yourself, investing in relationship the way you would like, and feeling whole, present, and capable. It can be hard to figure out what is getting in the way. Whether it's the daily stress and fast pace or dealing with deep loss. Or maybe there are some experiences that always seem to be always have a grip on your mind, waiting on the periphery, getting in the way. I hope to tend to these things in a way that they no longer feel limiting but a part of your journey as a human being that can be cared for well.

Welcome! Looking for ADHD, Autism, cognitive, or diagnostic testing? Did a family member with similar traits receive a diagnosis and it has made you wonder about your own life? Maybe you’ve always felt just a little bit different and want to know more about yourself. Or maybe, in order to receive accommodations you’ve been told you must have formalized testing. The majority of settings we find ourselves in (work, school, social, romantic) expect us to think and behave in specific or “typical” ways. Life is hard enough without the weight of these challenges. Through testing, we will work together to find your answers.

I work collaboratively with clients to build on the strengths they already possess. I provide a safe and compassionate place for people to tell their story and create new stories involving self worth, self compassion, and a sense of empowerment. We will identify your goals and break them down into manageable steps. I focus on your values as you define them with no judgment and no agenda. We will identify a more helpful role for your inner critic and learn new skills to better manage trauma, life transitions, anxiety, depression, or any other life struggle that brings you to therapy.

You’ve felt different from others most of your life. You’re tired of being told you are too sensitive. You feel too much. You require so much more alone time and downtime than most people. You have struggled to fit in, trying to please others, but this has sometimes caused you to feel deeply hurt. It’s exhausting and lonely being the person others often seek for support without reciprocating. You’re an old soul and you see the world differently. But the world seems so unkind in return. You’ve given so much and worked so hard but continue to feel unseen by those you care about. I see you.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
