With a specialization in domestic violence, sexual assault, PTSD/C-PTSD, veteran and first responder trauma, I bring a unique perspective to my practice, drawing from both my professional expertise and personal experiences as a Navy veteran.
We ALL need a therapist, whether we like to admit it or not. We’re either struggling with our internal dialogue or external actions and behaviors. Having the space and freedom to say what we wish to but can’t/won’t goes a long way in helping us feel more like us.

My background includes inpatient mental health, trauma-focused care, and serving as a victim advocate for survivors of sexual assault.
Many people carry the effects of trauma long after the painful experiences have ended. You may find yourself constantly anxious, emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected from others, stuck in unhealthy patterns, or simply exhausted from always being in survival mode. Trauma can impact every part of life — relationships, self-esteem, parenting, work, trust, and the ability to feel fully present or safe.

I have training in EMDR, trauma-informed modalities, and extensive experience in treating PTSD and sexual abuse in women.
My own experiences with anxiety and trauma made me curious about healing—not just surviving, but actually feeling better. More connected, more alive, more myself. I’m not your average talk therapist. I love swimming in the deep- always with the goal of real, lasting change. I’m not afraid of your big feelings, messy patterns, or the stuff you don’t say out loud. I feel at home sitting with people in their hardest, most honest moments.

Our early environment teaches us how to interact with ourselves and others during times of security, as well as moments of vulnerability or overwhelm. Our work together will help you to understand the dynamics under which your sense of self developed, and the relational skills you learned that may or may not be adaptive to your present relationships. Together, we will work to loosen these entrenched patterns to help you rediscover your sense of agency.

My areas of specialty are with women who have suffered from sexual, physical, or spiritual abuse, substance abuse, and/or disordered body image/eating disorders. I use my knowledge of attachment in relationships, the functions of the brain and nervous system, and expressive arts to guide clients in re-establishing a sense of safety and confidence within themselves. I am a faith-based counselor that believes that God is ultimately in charge of the healing process. But I also know that faith communities, Christian family members, and other close Christian relationships often fail to authentically meet us in the depths of our despair.

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
