Thirty four years ago, when I began to practice, I was fascinated by the resiliency of people individually, and their family systems. I have worked with people from many different backgrounds, with many different challenges. My approach to therapy is down-to-earth and uncomplicated. Most often I lean heavily into Trust Based Relational Interventions (TBRI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Neurofunctional Therapies. I look at challenges from several viewpoints and work with the client to help them identify their strengths within to address their own unique concerns.

Do you feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to make sense of what you’re feeling? Do you find it hard to put words to your emotions-or feel like you “should” have it all together but something still feels off? You’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. In our work together, we’ll start by putting language to your experience and identifying what actually needs your attention. My goal is that you leave sessions feeling heard, supported, and with a clearer sense of direction. I take a person-centered approach, prioritizing a trusting relationship where you feel safe, and seen.

Are you feeling stuck, as if things are a bit out of tune on the outside with things on the inside, or as if healing feels too difficult to define let alone make progress towards? I enjoy using a multifaceted, integrated approach to helping individuals growing in the art of being human. My approach to the therapeutic process is rooted in the integration of somatic and existential techniques, although I may use behavioral therapies or other complementary modalities dependent upon a person’s needs.

Sometimes life can feel like a rollercoaster that we somehow can’t seem to exit, don’t know how we got on it in the first place, and are then having to white knuckle it as best as possible. That is why I went into this field to not only learn tools to help others work through challenges, but also provide a space to feel safe, seen, and fully understood without judgement. My goal as a therapist is to walk alongside you, help you grow, and help curate security with yourself, your relationships, and feel more emotionally balanced.

I accept several major insurance plans, including Premera, Regence, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Asuris, First Choice, Kaiser, and Cigna.
I enjoy working with teens and adults who are navigating challenges with their mental health in everyday life—whether that’s anxiety, dissociation, sadness, anger, or difficulty adjusting and making sense of things. Some clients come in with a clear understanding of what they’re experiencing and want help coping more effectively, while others are still trying to understand why they feel the way they do. I support both. I offer a safe, supportive space to explore these struggles, while also providing honest feedback, practical tools, and a clear plan to help you move forward.

You may be in a season where the "keep on keeping on" may not feel possible anymore. The thoughts are too loud, the emotions too much, you feel like you're doing too much and not enough at the same time. Maybe it all used to feel manageable but now it all seems out of control - leaving you to feel at a loss, stuck, alone. I see you. I know it's exhausting to carry it all and not know what to do with it. We were never meant to figure it all out on our own, humans weren't built to suffer in solitude, and you don't have to anymore.

I am in-network with all Premera plans, including some BCBS plans, and can provide superbills for out of network reimbursement.
Therapy is a vulnerable process, and my goal is to meet clients where they’re at and work with them in a warm, engaging, and direct manner. I work with clients collaboratively, seeing you as the expert of your own life and me as a third party to help see patterns, ask questions, and hold difficult things with you. My goal is to see holistic change for each client. I work from a systems perspective, meaning I incorporate the way your family, friends, community, work, etc. affect who you are. With this knowledge, we can build healthy frameworks and relationships.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy. Learn more about Insurance Coverage and Finding Affordable Therapy
