You might be competent and thoughtful, yet feel anxious, disconnected, or quietly overwhelmed. You may notice emotional reactions or relationship patterns that don’t fully make sense, or feel like your past — or even your family’s past — still lives in your body. You’re not looking for quick fixes or advice. You want to understand yourself deeply, untangle your story, and make choices that feel true to who you are — not who you became to survive. You’re curious about how attachment, trauma, and intergenerational patterns shape your inner world, and you’re ready to explore that honestly.

We are surrounded by systems that shape our lives from an early age. These systems include our upbringing, our culture, and even our everyday language. In therapy, we are asked how we navigate these systems to create meaning in our lives. Through engaging these meanings and openly acknowledging the role that suffering plays in our lives, psychotherapy addresses one’s psychological symptoms as well as one’s innermost fears and desires. This occurs in a manner that does not stigmatize the different, sometimes contradictory, aspects of our lives, but sees them as meaningful and as a way forward.

My current focus is helping teens, young adults and adults, with a specialized focus on life transitions, self-esteem, anxiety, relationship issues, communication skills, & personal growth.
I believe having a judgment-free and safe space to share, helps foster the path toward healing and change. I view counseling as a collaborative process between counselor and client, which is why I integrate several theoretical styles, tailored to my clients’ needs and goals. Primarily my focus is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but I also come from a Client Centered approach, meaning I believe that you are the expert in your life and I will act as a support and guide. Relationship building and being comfortable with one another is key and my goal is to make sure all my clients feel heard, understood, and welcome.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
