As the wife of a Vietnam Vet, I understand the challenges many veteran couples and families face with transitions, secondary trauma , grief, and loss.
Couples or individuals struggling with conflict, stress, or overwhelming circumstances will find a safe place here to sort their thoughts and feelings about the issues while learning to repair and create deeper connections with loved ones. As a systems therapist, I understand the challenges of life transitions and help strengthen couple relationships and family cohesion and resilience through various life challenges. For clients struggling with past family of origin issues, we work to heal difficult memories. I help clients grow from brokenness, trauma , grief and loss to find healing, hope, peace and a new direction.

My services are for folks of any gender who are curious to explore their relationship and/or family dynamics. I am especially eager to work with individuals who are curious about what they may perceive as chronic relational challenges. Using a trauma and attachment informed lens, we will explore how our early attachment experiences shape the interpersonal habits and behaviors we can carry throughout the lifespan. I have an extensive background working with youth (13-17), young adults (18-25), and adults. I enjoy supporting people as they navigate life, including transitions, anxiety, depression, grief, loss, and chronic pain.

At some level there may be trauma causing feelings of unease and possible withdrawal.
Many of us, at one time or another, experience a feeling of being overwhelmed by life. There are even phases when everything seems to be going wrong. Anxiety and depression are common responses to the difficulties of life. If you are on here searching for help you are most likely at a point in your life where things feel out of balance.

I am interested in adult ADHD, trauma , transgender issues and psychosomatic issues (those physical symptoms that seem to have no medical cause).
For 20+ years I have been providing individual psychotherapy. You might be thinking about therapy because you have a sense that something is wrong or something hurts. Sometimes all you know is you have not felt happy for a long time. Perhaps you are experiencing confusion about a relationship or are having anxiety or depression. You have Bipolar Disorder or ADHD and want help beyond medications. Perhaps you are going through a transition such as divorce. You may find yourself up against the "same old problems" at work or home. You may be trying to manage trauma . I can help.

I have over 40 hours of training in PMADs (Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders) and I am a level 1 Birth Trauma Trained Therapist.
1 in 5 women will experience a clinical mood or anxiety disorder during and/or after pregnancy. Between 25-34% of women report their births as traumatic. Following the birth, some go on to develop Postpartum PTSD . The earlier there is support during this vulnerable and often overwhelming time, the adjustment to motherhood is less bumpy. I work with women (and their partners) to manage anxiety, depression, fear around motherhood and birth, postpartum PTSD and planning for postpartum support. I offer support during pregnancy and postpartum in a couple different ways. Traditional therapy, short-term home visits, or consulting.

Working through trauma or facing the struggle of postpartum depression/anxiety is tough but a rewarding process.
Brain doing weird brain stuff? Maybe that looks like past memories popping up when they shouldn’t or feeling multiple different ways about a single situation. Maybe it’s the joy of sleep deprivation caused by a newborn or postpartum depression and anxiety. Maybe it’s trying to wrap your brain around infertility and all the stress that goes along with it. Not only are those problems exhausting, but now you get to search the vast sea of endless therapists. You’re ready to finally feel present in your life and feel hope for your future.

I focus on adults and adolescents with trauma , grief, depression, and anxiety.
Life's stressors can be overwhelming. Therapy shows us new ways of being and engaging through practicing adaptive skills and mindfulness. I help my clients uncover connections between past experiences that shape their current ways of coping. This leads to the ability to recognize inner strengths, identify and embrace discomfort, and cultivate self-compassion to find peace and true connection. With empathetic listening in a safe environment, I strive to be my client’s ally. I use cognitive and somatic modalities to connect mind and body and tailor my approach to your needs, even using humor when appropriate!

I also offer EMDR for anxiety relief and trauma resolution.
As of January 27, 2023, my practice is full and I cannot accept new clients at this time. If you're worried about a loved one with substance use and/or mental health problems, I offer counseling to renew your own self-care while figuring out how to best support your loved one. Helping people close to those with substance use/psychiatric issues is one of my specialties. I am a social worker with 15 years of experience helping people create healthy change. I named my practice Many Paths Counseling because I feel there is more than one right way to feel better, find answers, heal from the past, and kindle hope for the future.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
