I have extensive experience working with psychosis, trauma, depression, anxiety, and existential dread.
I work well with people who are looking to heal and grow through a better understanding of themselves, usually starting with their symptoms. In doing so, they learn who they are and what is meaningful to them so they can increasingly trust themselves and become the authority on their life. Through this process, I help my clients deepen their experience of life, opening up themselves up to increasing meaning and wisdom. I encourage change through increased connection with the power of their own creative and intuitive abilities. I like working with people who are motivated to change, are open-minded, curious, reflective, and creative.

I am accepting new clients. I work with adults, adolescents, and couples. Individual work is introspective, client-paced, and focused on upgrading aspects of your relationships with yourself, with others and your environment. Couples work begins with the relationship itself, healthy and productive communication between partners. I use a trauma-informed focus with all my clients. Often the trauma informed perspectives are most useful in relationship work. Therapy with adolescents usually starts with psycho-education about what’s normal, what’s healthy, and how to navigate or communicate with the environment, parents and peers.

Do you move through life appearing calm and capable, yet inside there’s a quiet ache, a sense that no matter how much you accomplish, peace remains just out of reach? Do the echoes of childhood pain, anxiety, perfectionism, and shame whisper that you must always do more, be more? Does rest feel undeserved, joy slips away too quickly, and the old stories of not being enough still shape how you move through the world? Maybe a recent life change such as a move, a new job, or divorce have activated old wounds and you find yourself more depressed, anxious, and isolated in your own mind?

Sometimes things that happened to us when we were young still make it hard for us to feel safe in the world, or to trust others or even ourselves. You might feel that you are carrying around something from your past, and it's weighing you down. There's a saying: "It's not you, it's what happened to you." Are you looking for someone to help you process some of that old pain so you can stop worrying so much, and not be so hard on yourself? If you feel that childhood trauma, unhappy relationships, anxiety, grief, guilt, or shame are keeping you from fully enjoying your life, you will likely respond well to a depth-psychology approach.

I am particularly interested in working with people struggling with the on going effects of adverse childhood experiences like abuse, neglect and loss; especially those of early childhood. Often people suffering from the painful effects of traumatic experiences have never really felt whole, known peace or felt truly acceptable.

I am an integrative and culturally sensitive driven therapist who works with individual adults to unlearn systemic inequalities and process intergenerational trauma, grief, and anxiety, so you can confidently befriend your feelings, navigate life transitions, step into authenticity, and feel more at home in yourself. Often times when we are going through something difficult, it can be hard to see our way out. This may lead to spiraling thoughts, a lost sense of security and safety, thinking "I'm not good enough", consistently feeling on edge, and feeling disconnected from ourselves and others.

For 20+ years I have been providing individual psychotherapy. You might be thinking about therapy because you have a sense that something is wrong or something hurts. Sometimes all you know is you have not felt happy for a long time. Perhaps you are experiencing confusion about a relationship or are having anxiety or depression. You have Bipolar Disorder or ADHD and want help beyond medications. Perhaps you are going through a transition such as divorce. You may find yourself up against the "same old problems" at work or home. You may be trying to manage trauma. I can help.

Along with my role as a statewide trainer and consultant with expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp) for the University of WA Dept of Psychiatry, I support private clients with a wide range of issues, offer clinical supervision for mental health professionals, & offer consultation & trainings for co-occurring disorders and CBT & CBTp.
Thoughts, feelings and behaviors, which we often aren't even aware of, can keep us cycling in painful patterns of suffering, & may deepen those patterns over time. Through exploring our experience in a safe & compassionate space, we have the opportunity to see more clearly the patterns that aren't supporting our wellness or allowing us to live in line with what's truly valuable to us. We have an opportunity to learn tools that move us toward a more fulfilling existence, regardless of how difficult our life circumstances may feel to us.

Psychosis Therapists
What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?
The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.

When should people seek treatment for psychosis?
People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.

What if psychosis is left untreated?
Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.

How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?
It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
