As I acquire experience as a therapist, it has become apparent that the therapeutic relationship between the counselor and the client is crucial to the success of the client.
I specialize in working with trauma survivors; traumatic events live at the base of most mental health struggles such as; PTSD, ADHD, Co-dependence, Depression, Anxiety, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Narcissism; to name a few. Once the initial trauma is identified, through therapy, a person can begin to re-build and increase their quality of life.

Eating disorders have the highest mortality of all psychiatric diagnoses. I'm a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist. You aren't sick because you want to be (see Neurobiology.) The change we need to live healthy can seem more difficult than the pain. The emptiness of escapism, whether through restriction, drugs, alcohol, food, etc. obscures your potential. If it's not dangerous, you don't have to run. When you practice avoidance, you also avoid experiences producing self-trust, self-confidence and self-esteem. If you want to practice bravery, I'm here. I teach skills and assign homework. I'm willing to work as hard as you are.

We'll focus on your goals, building resilience and self-compassion, and nurturing healthier relationships with yourself and others along the way.
Life comes with challenges; at times it feels like they keep piling on, making it difficult not to become overwhelmed. This overwhelm can be magnified when we feel as if we’re facing hardship alone. Powerlessness to make a meaningful difference, despite our best efforts, can be disheartening. During these times the weight of our burdens seem unbearable; the path forward unclear. You don't have to navigate this alone. As your therapist, I'll meet you where you are using a trauma-informed, neurobiologically based approach to help you understand how your brain works, challenge unhelpful thoughts, and build skills for managing distress.

This approach works as a positive foundation for most issues that bring clients to my counseling office: counteracting depression and anxiety, accepting grief and loss, parenting challenges, improving significant relationships, addressing post-partum problems, and dealing with the challenges of life in general.
I am also a trained couples therapist from The Couples Institute. This approach gives couples tools to move successfully through the developmental stages that all relationships face and teaches partners to replace their negative cycles with more effective strategies to achieve the relationship they desire.

The relationships that we put so much work into with those that we love are often the same relationships that cause the most hurt.
I connect with those in front of me to bring to surface the inner strengths and capacities that are personal tools for healing and growth. My genuine desire to help strengthen individuals and their family relationships is my base. Therapy is transformative when an alliance is built that helps individuals and couples to access strength and secure connections.

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
