Sometimes it can feel alarming to realize our anxiety, depression or trauma is not just in our heads, but in our bodies as well. We might try to change the way we are thinking, but we still don't feel at home in our own skin. We can start to feel afraid that nothing will ever change. As a somatic (body-centered) psychotherapist trained in trauma across the lifespan, it is my honor to support clients in discovering that much more is possible than at first imagined. I enjoy helping clients identify what is right and natural about themselves, and to heal through their own fully-trustworthy inner wisdom.

Life has taught me that pain and suffering are part of the human experience. You may be feeling alone, confused, and frustrated, but with the right tools, you can learn to weather the storms and move towards a meaningful, satisfying life. I want to provide a compassionate, listening ear. I serve people who dealing with anxiety, burn out, or depression; who have experienced trauma and need help processing it; or who are struggling with their purpose and the direction of their life. I help clients build the skills they need to feel better and take action so that they can move toward a meaningful and satisfying life.

Suffering from mental and emotional problems can cause you to feel hopeless and defeated. You may believe recovery is not possible and that you're destined to live a life of misery. I am here to tell you that you can heal and be happy instead of sad and anxious. I help individuals who suffer from trauma, anxiety disorders and OCD. I also work well with individuals who struggle to regulate their emotions or participate in self-destructive behaviors. In therapy we work together on understanding how your thoughts, belief systems, and feelings play a role in your life.

I am a neurodivergent genderqueer transwoman. I focus very specifically on working with transfolk, enbies, neurospicy folk, and/or OSDD/DID systems at this time. I work with preteens, teens, and adults. I am very happy to do an assessment for WPATH letters for gender affirming surgeries. For WPATH letters I take almost any insurance including Molina and Medicare. While I work with folks on the spectrum, I am not equipped to provide assessments for autism spectrum disorders at this time. I also offer electrolysis. :)

Counseling is sacred work. It is through the vehicle of relationship, with both God and others, that humans were intended to experience restoration. While indeed relationships can be a source of pain, they are also a powerful force for resiliency. Through the therapeutic relationship, I enjoy coming alongside clients on their journey by providing a safe and compassionate space for exploration. Together we will go beyond just symptom management and work toward understanding the root of what you are experiencing. Whatever you are facing, you were never meant to do so in isolation.

At the core of my therapeutic approach is my belief that we heal and transform through authentic and empathic connection. I view therapy as a collaborative process where we co-create a space to engage what has been wounded and find medicine to heal and grow. Seeking healing and restoration is a brave and courageous journey that goes against all the systems of oppression that seek to wound and separate us. I considered it a profound honor to walk with someone in this journey through challenges, suffering, wonder, curiosity and pain, to find a healing, growth, embodiment and joy that follows us beyond the therapy room.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
