When we feel that we belong to the world, then we can move through it with confidence and courage, open to growth and happiness. There are plenty of things to worry about as a kid, and today’s culture does not necessarily make it easier. But children do not have to go at it alone! Feelings of despair, loneliness, and inauthenticity are completely normal for many kids and young adults. No one lives alone with these feelings, even though it may feel this way. Through a genuine counseling relationship, kids can begin to believe much deeper in their strengths than in their shortcomings.

You’ve done therapy, read the books, and understand yourself—but in the moments that matter, you still react the same way. You’re doing all the “right” things, but it’s not working the way it should. You already know yourself well. Insight is valuable—but it doesn’t always change what happens in the moment.

Do you feel stuck, even though you’re doing all the “right” things? Often, how we show up in the world reflects how we learned to survive in it. Deep down, we all want to feel seen, heard, and valued—but beliefs that we’re unworthy or “not enough” can leave us anxious, disconnected, or overwhelmed. Together, we’ll begin to notice, challenge and heal those old messages so you can reconnect with your most authentic, grounded self. Our work is about returning home to yourself—to a place of authenticity, self-compassion, and connection—so you can move through life with greater ease, confidence, and a renewed sense of belonging.

At its core, I believe therapy is an opportunity to process and understand our past while also growing into the people we want to be. Life can be so brutal and complicated; we deserve a safe place to talk and explore! I believe that life throws us curve balls and everyone, at times, needs some assistance in learning to cope effectively. It is so vital to recognize that you have incredible value and are capable of conquering your hardships. I strive to maintain a safe, comforting, and trusting environment to do that exploring.

I believe in tailoring the therapy to meet each client's individual needs. I primarily use psychodynamic therapy which helps the client gain self-insight but also use a variety of therapeutic techniques including mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral methods. Being able to stand back from one's self and gain perspective about one's personality, choices and actions are important in helping an individual work through issues. I help the client explore what issues from the past or present may be contributing to depression or anxiety.

Do discussions with your partner often lead to yelling or angry silence? Do you find yourselves arguing about the same issues year after year with no resolution? Learn to restore harmony in your home with communication skills that create guardrails for safety (I sometime call them training wheels or bumper pads). When couples feel like they’re walking on eggshells, life feels exhausting. When the best of intentions devolve into disappointment, misunderstanding, and hurt feelings, it might seem like there is no way back to the romantic bond you once enjoyed. It can be done, and together we will plot that course!

It has been said, that change only occurs when the pain of remaining the same becomes greater than the pain of change. A healthy fulfilling life is full of transformative growth, which can be emotionally difficult, and threatening to established thinking and behavior. My work focuses on moving you toward your stated goals, guiding you through the discomfort toward a new normal. I will work collaboratively with you to explore your particular issue, examine your options, and give you the tools you need to face difficulties and bring about positive change.

I am a licensed clinical social worker (with a doctorate from Columbia University) with over 40 years of practice experience with children, families, couples, and adults. My approach to our work is "psychodynamic" and I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship. I am open to consultation, crisis intervention, short term therapy, and more intensive, insight oriented treatment. The "ideal client" is the one who is willing to work hard. So am I!

My therapeutic approach is grounded in positive regard: I recognize that each client has a complex history and am committed to creating an environment where you can openly explore your internal and external experiences, free from judgment and criticism. I prioritize a collaborative therapeutic relationship, where you can retain autonomy and agency throughout the process. Above all, the quality of the therapeutic relationship can often be the biggest contributing factor to successful therapeutic outcomes, so it’s okay to be picky!

Welcome to Creative Guidance, PLLC. I believe that our ability to stay in the moment, especially when things are difficult, can be tough. Wanting to escape the present moment is a normal human response. When we are able to remain present, that is where healing, wisdom and change truly lies. When we can stay with what we are feeling and experiencing, both good and challenging, we are then empowered to change our lives.
