relationship
difficulties, break-up/divorce, self-esteem, and depression. Typical clients I work with are people that feel they should be at a different place in their life, are wanting to gain a better sense of who they are and what they want, wanting to improve their relationships, increase self-esteem and confidence, reduce anxiety and depression, and be "happier." I value self-growth ending in a healthy shift of life. I have a thorough and compassionate understanding of the positive aspects and struggles of relationships, families, and the single life-style.

I work with individuals,
couples
, and families from all types of backgrounds. I am a very come-as-you-are therapist. Humans are messy and inconsistent, we crave change and also dig our heels in to avoid it. I love to work with people who are willing to examine these inconsistencies, who are open to new perspectives and taking steps to feeling more at peace--even in this truly chaotic time in history!

Couples
/Families: Close relationships can be difficult. Top issues that bring
couples
into counseling include: Money, In-Laws, Parenting, Housework, Sex, and Emotional Intimacy. Relational issues left untreated often cause
couples
to live in "quiet desperation" or all-out warfare. Couple and familial relationships don't have to be a series of endless arguments or giving up and feeling alone. With awareness, skills, and practice relationships can change for the better. I would be honored to help in this journey so that you and your loved ones can recover the joy, fun, and deep connection that first drew you together.

There are many reasons why you might be looking for a counselor, but the search always involves a certain amount of courage and humility. Maybe things in life are not turning out as you've planned; or, you've woken up with a hangover three too many times or you can't quite kick your late night consumption of an endless scroll of pornography; or, perhaps, you've never quite gotten past the death of a loved one or a choice made during a heated conflict of war. Perhaps your fighting with your
spouse
, struggling to discern your vocation, or a myriad of other possibilities; whatever brings you, I commend your brave and humble beginning.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
