I meet clients where the are at in their personal process: your needs guide the counseling session. My depth of experience and personal explorations underpin my word as a clinician. My goal is for you to feel heard and understood, which allows you to make positive lasting changes. Conditions treated with success in working with younger to older adults include life dissatisfaction, anxiety, depression, grief, social isolation, relationship concerns, panic attacks, compulsive and addictive behaviors and identity struggles. As well, I have additional training in treating women and their families impacted by postpartum depression.

** I AM NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS** Everyone struggles at some point in their life. Sometimes we are able to handle life's difficulties on our own and sometimes we could use the help of a professional to conquer our dilemmas. I am honored to help people through those rough patches, and at all times guide them in a nonjudgmental, confidential, caring way. I do not take a 'one size fits all' approach to counseling. I will work with my clients to establish goals and how we will work towards that growth.

***I AM CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS AND WILL REASSESS AVAILABILITY IN JULY*** How does one stay hopeful when today can be so hard? We all crave connection and can benefit from being heard in a confidential space without judgement. The challenges we face in life come in many forms, but everyone has the capacity to experience positive change. It would be my privilege to hear your story and support you in your current season. I work with teens (16+) and adults, and take a Person-Centered Therapy approach when developing a plan of care. Therapy should be about reaching your goals for life change.

Email for a quick response. "You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated." ---Maya Angelou. We all experience difficulties. When life gets complicated, when we are overwhelmed and just need some guidance to navigate our day, when we need to feel more in control, to feel comfortable and safe, counseling is helpful. Every one of us could use someone to listen, an opportunity to speak freely and be supported. This is my focus and passion. I have extensive experience working with youth and adults who are experiencing sadness, worry, anger, grief, and trauma.

You, as my client, are the number one focus. As a mental health therapist/counselor I place great value on working in a supportive environment and assisting you to develop goals to help you become a better individual who lives life to the fullest. In identifying your issues and questions, the general goal of counseling is to help you learn to implement coping mechanisms. Mental health counseling should be an educational process as well as a developmental process.

I believe that nobody is immune to the ups and downs that life can bring. The power of having a safe space with a therapist you connect with can make all the difference. My goal as a therapist is to help you find greater self-compassion, healing, hope, and the strength within yourself to find solutions that work for you. At heart, I am a humanistic therapist. With a humanistic approach, I aim to help you as a whole person, achieve a more fulfilling life, rather than treat a specific diagnosis. I provide a compassionate, non-judgmental space for my clients to work through their challenges.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
