To everyone that knows you – you’ve got it all together. But to be honest, the unresolved pain of past trauma negatively affects your mind, body, and overall well-being. Years of unresolved issues make you feel tired, overwhelmed and exhausted. You’re not sure how long you can keep up the facade. Perhaps you have been living up to other people’s expectations in addition to your own, and the load feels heavy.

I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR ) Therapy as my primary therapeutic intervention.
I specialize in working with adults (ages 18-60) who struggle with the effects of trauma or negative life events. Quite frequently, these experiences result in feelings of low self-worth, feeling on edge all the time, feeling easily overwhelmed, or feeling empty. While I work with adults of any background, I am also an Army Veteran and love working with anyone military affiliated. The military is very unique and I understand how difficult it can be to talk about those experiences to someone who gets it.

I take a creative, client-centered approach to therapy, utilizing narrative therapy, EMDR , IFS, CBT, and DBT to help clients with symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, and relationship issues.
ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS Do you have a sense that you have no control over your life, thoughts, or feelings, causing you NOT to be an active participant in your own life? Do these feelings cause you to feel that you are drifting through life, becoming depressed and anxious? My goal is to offer a safe, supportive space, to walk with you on your journey, explore aspects of the 'self' that you would like to build, and discover strengths that can be used in your present and future, in order to construct the life you desire. Remember, the steps you take don’t have to be big, they just have to be heading you in the right direction.

I hold certifications in EMDR and Hypnotherapy and am trained in CBT, TF-CBT and DBT.
Congratulations! You have taken the first step toward healing by seeking help. It is important that the relationship between you and your therapist is a good fit, based on mutual respect and trust. I use a strength-based and practical approach. I have a sense of humor which seems to help clients feel more comfortable. Therapy's primary focus is on the present with an understanding of the effects of past events on current behaviors and the need to process unresolved issues. "The turmoil of the past is never wholly forgotten, unresolved it seeps through even the strongest foundation."

As an experienced trauma therapist, I believed that learning to calm your body/nervous system/memory to traumatic past events is most effective using EMDR .
Traumatic and high emotional experiences can leave us feeling worn out, scared, anxious, panicked. We feel as if we are lost and can’t even recognize ourselves in the mirror. We can feel like our true self has been taken, stolen and fear that it is gone for good. It can be scary to ask for help. I encourage you to ask. Whether you have experienced a recent traumatic event or have witnessed something traumatic or scary or confusing evidenced based therapy is available to begin reducing your suffering as soon as possible.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
