Accepting new clients. I specialize in supporting LGBTQ +, polyamorous, and/or kinky individuals and couples. Before therapy, many of my clients think: Deep down, I don't feel very good about myself. My past relationships and experiences are still affecting me- I want to understand why and how. I think what I’ve been through is my fault, even if I “shouldn’t” think that. It feels scary to talk about how I feel with other people. If that sounds like you, I can help. Therapy can be a safe, non-judgmental space to process your experiences and learn skills that will help you for the rest of your life.

I’m working towards a certificate in Gender Affirming Clinical Practice, and I have a deep passion for working with the LGBTQIA + community, social justice advocacy, intersectional feminism, and practicing from a fat-positive, Health at Every Size lens.
My goal as a counselor in training is to help clients explore anxiety, depression, body image concerns, sexuality, and gender identity exploration with self-compassion and an eye on the structural injustices that make this work so hard. I love supporting clients through identity exploration of all kinds, and if you're looking to know yourself a little more deeply, come to terms with big life changes, repair your relationship with your body, or learn to work through the painful, dark periods of life with some support and reflection, I am here for you.

As a member of the LGBTQIA + community, I strive to create a safe space within my practice for individuals exploring their sexual and gender identities as well as LGBTQIA + individuals who are struggling with self-compassion or finding a support system.
Welcome! My name is Hannah, and I believe that every individual deserves to be heard, affirmed, and supported as they work to build up skills to address the issues they are facing daily in their lives. Thank you for taking a minute to read my bio to see if I might be a good fit to come alongside you on your journey. I work primarily with Transgender , Intersex, Lesbian , Gay , Bisexual , Androgynous, Queer , or Questioning individuals and I myself identify as queer and gender fluid.
What if you could take control of your past, present and future? With a little support, you can. Everyone can benefit from a little, or a lot, of counseling. Counseling should not be scary or stressful. My goal is to create a safe space where you can be honest and real. It takes great courage to seek help. To heal, grow and thrive people need a truly non-judgmental space in which to explore strengths, weaknesses, fears, past, present, and hopes for the future. I am real, kind, honest, and trustworthy.

Things have been getting challenging. You need some help to cope with it all. It is a big step to reach out for help. I recognize the step you are taking. You can’t do this alone.

My specialty is working with transgender and gender non-conforming clients.
Ideally, I would like to use my extensive training and 40+ years of counseling experience to support, assist and advocate for clients whose personal identity lies on the LGBTQIA2S+ spectrum, while they explore, investigate, or plan the rest of their life journey in their true identity. Naturally, I do NOT exclude others from becoming clients, since I also have a wealth of experience serving clients from the vast straight and cisgender community.

I am also LGBTQ + affirming and operate from an anti-racist, intersectional-feminist framework.
Whether you’re looking to heal wounds, understand your role in the world, or develop practices to support a lifetime of wellbeing, I offer a non-judgemental space to explore what it means to be you in a complex world. We will not only examine the broader systems and dynamics that have informed your life story, but work together to explore your sense of self, obtain clarity about how you got here, and develop a pathway to healing and acceptance. Drawing from research on neuroscience and mindfulness, I will help you increase attunement with your body and its unique safety signals.

My professional background includes working with survivors of interpersonal violence, working with LGBTQ + individuals in a community mental health setting, and providing individual and group therapy in a partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient setting to those experiencing mood, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders.
Welcome! My approach to therapy is collaborative and relational. I work to support clients in developing an increasingly complex and embodied understanding of themselves in the context of the relationships and systems that they interact with. Through our work together, clients can expect to uncover habitual patterns of behavior that interfere with living the life they want, and over time to experience an increased sense of choice and flexibility in their actions. I aim to support individuals in developing a greater sense of comfort with themselves, and an increased ability to cope with the inevitable challenges that life offers.

I endorse self-advocacy, racial and social justice, body neutrality, and queer / trans identity development.
Restoring balance and healing our self-limiting beliefs really is possible. Often, our life stressors point to where we need to heal. My passion is working with folks who are motivated for that change. I work with bottom-up psychotherapies like Somatic Experiencing, EMDR and Brainspotting to treat anxiety/depression, grief and loss, PTSD, past traumas or current triggers, abuse, concussion, birth/pregnancy issues, chronic pain, performance expansion and more. We'll explore the origins and impacts of distress, develop self-compassion and grounding practices, process trauma and negative thoughts, and re-regulate your nervous system.

I am passionate about serving and advocating for the LGBTQAI+ community and provide a trans -affirmative, safe, and non-judgmental environment where clients can feel supported and accepted.
Therapy is a collaborative process between the therapist and client. I approach the therapeutic process as a powerful opportunity for clients to cultivate change and deepen awareness in their lives. I create a compassionate and accepting therapeutic environment where clients can feel safe to explore opportunities for personal and interpersonal growth. I am especially sensitive to how oppression impacts mental health and identity.

How can I find a therapist in Bellingham?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
