Do you want a fresh outlook? Are you looking for a new perspective? Do you want change that offers realistic hope? I have been privileged over the past 20 plus years of helping people address change. We all want to avoid addressing personal change. In many ways it is like musical chairs: We cling as long as possible to the perceived "safe" place that we already know, refusing to loosen our grip until we feel sure another safe place awaits. Together we will work to establish attainable goals that are best suited for your life.

My focus is on creating a trusting
relationship
with clients that provides them with the safety needed to take emotional risks so that they can arrive at new personal insights and be free of restrictive thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that block the maturation of the wise and "deep" self.
I utilize an eclectic therapeutic approach that emphasizes training received in Gestalt Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral, Experiential Therapy & Mindfulness. My approach has evolved out of several years of working within the Adventure Education/Wilderness Therapy field supporting people in awakening to a deeper
relationship
with themselves, nature, and others. I have extensive experience serving young men, adolescents, adults in transitional phases, and families/parents in crisis. I encourage clients to move towards whole health by helping them to identify transformational & core emotions via a direct empathetic approach.

I received my MA through a trauma-based program and love working with both
couples
and individuals.
I love working with both individuals and
couples
and in either case take the approach of discussing what it means to walk through this world in relation to others. Whether that's a committed
relationship
to a loved one or the
relationship
you've developed with a casual co-worker or the
relationship
you have with your parents or the
relationship
you have with yourself (how you view and think of yourself); all of these carry deep complexity. And all relationships take work. Finding someone who can help you navigate why you feel stuck in these relationships sometimes, can be relieving, healing, and even life altering.

Now accepting new clients! A mindfully collaborative approach to counseling begins with a validating and empathetic therapist. I work with adults,
couples

When we approach ourselves with compassion and kindness, we open the door to growth and a deeper understanding of ourselves. The
relationship
between therapist and client is the most important aspect of this therapeutic journey, which is why I offer a free initial phone consultation to ensure we are a good match.
At times we all find ourselves in periods of growth that can be challenging and confusing. Growth and change can be difficult but if troubling obstacles are removed, one can move towards a healthier, creative, vibrant life with a new sense of meaning and purpose. I tend to look at symptoms individuals are struggling with as guides showing the changes one needs to make in order to develop into their authentic, creative self. The work I do with client’s is often symbolic and includes dream work, creative expression, deep conversation, lessons from nature, and a deep relational connection that can foster authentic experience.

I have been in private practice since 2004 and work with individuals,
couples
and groups dealing with a wide variety of issues. I recognize that each client is unique and strive to create an individual plan of therapy tailored to each person's specific needs. This often includes dealing with what isn't working in their life, whether it's depression, traumatic past experiences or relational difficulties, also recognizing the aspects of their life that may be working well and finding ways to build on those strengths.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
