I specialize in life transitions, relationships, and
women's issues
.
Let's face it, life can be stressful. That stress can become even more pronounced as you navigate new transitions like becoming an adult, moving to a new city, starting a new job, or leaving a relationship. Often times we have the answer but just need help sorting things out. Sometimes family and friends can be too close to help you identify your challenges. Sometimes THEY are the challenge. Working and trying to manage day-to-day responsibilities is no simple task. This is why I a firm believer in therapy.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has a heart for empowering women to live joyfully inside their bodies through liberation-work and self-compassion. I approach therapy from a systemic, person-centered, feminist, sex-positive, and HAES lens that's rooted in social justice. You are a hustler. You put your heart and soul into your career, and you’re proud of what you’ve accomplished… So why are you crying at work? Struggling with insomnia? Feeling irritable and jaded? The truth is, you're exhausted. You fantasize about abandoning the career you’ve worked so hard to build. Life outside of work feels daunting, and you know you are not living out your most important values. If you’re single, the thought of finding your person and building a family sounds almost impossible. If you’re a wife or mother, you feel overwhelmed, angry, and resentful as you struggle to balance your career and family.

Healing, growth, and change. Are you wondering if these common outcomes of therapy are actually possible for you, or if therapy works at all? Maybe you have a different set of questions. Can someone really help me overcome this dark depression or intense anxiety? Am I the only one feeling like this? Can our relationship rebound after this betrayal? What's wrong with me/him/her/them/us? Why can't they just be happy for me? Questions like these are worthy to be asked and take a great deal of courage to seek the answers. You don't have to do this alone.

Anxiety has been a challenge for as long as you can remember. But, until recently, it's always been manageable. You've gotten through the tough times by talking with friends, doing yoga, or journaling. But lately, all those faithful coping strategies seem to fall short. You find yourself asking "Do I need therapy?" While you have always been an advocate of mental health care, it's intimidating to seriously consider seeking therapy for yourself. You have all sorts of questions and fears about starting down this path. If this is you, I might be your person.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
