I am certified in Prolonged Exposure Therapy for
PTSD
, Level 1 Integrative Harm Reduction Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia and Nightmares, Sexual Health in Recovery, and Co-Occurring Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Disorders (COPSD).
When we experience challenging events in our lives, it is human nature to seek to avoid uncomfortable memories, emotions, or body sensations related to these events. Much like the body possesses the innate power to heal a cut on your leg, the mind is equipped with this same intelligence. Using suspension of judgment and psychoeducation, I provide knowledge and a safe container for clients to access their inner healing intelligence and find meaning in difficult experiences. I am also deeply passionate about harm reduction and I have dedicated many years of my career to addressing my clients' relationship with substances.

I help adults who experience anxiety, depression and
trauma
gain more control of their emotions and thoughts.
You never feel good enough and the voice in your head is quick to remind you of all the ways you are falling short. You've spent the last months or years trying to keep everything together, but it’s exhausting and you don’t think you can do it anymore. Most days you feel so anxious you can barely breathe or you can’t stop crying. Friends reach out but you would rather pull the covers over your head and numb out to social media, food, alcohol or other things you know are not healthy for you. You can’t motivate yourself to do the things you really want to do. “What’s wrong with me” is a thought that goes everywhere with you.

I believe in a connection between mind and body and view mental health as a balance in this connection. My main areas of practice include
trauma
, attachment, anxiety, relationship difficulties, chronic stress, depression, perinatal mental health, and pregnancy loss. My main approach for working with people impacted by
trauma
and developmental wounds is Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. This approach helps clients reconnect with their bodies and find balance with the connection between mind and body, restoring a somatic sense of self. Clients also explore the ways that early life experiences and past relationships have shaped beliefs

In life we have experiences that shape us. Some of these experiences have a major influence as to how we view ourselves and how we view the world around us. These experiences may impact confidence, relationships, and ability to cope. Each day may involve work stress, family stress, relationship stress, financial stress, and ideally we want to find a way to healthily manage all that life entails. We want to learn and find new ways to navigate through our own lives with more balance and positivity.

I do this by taking on a non-judgmental therapeutic approach alongside the use of evidence-based modalities to encourage
trauma

Your story matters. Peoples’ stories can get messy and I am not afraid to sit in that mess with my clients. I use Narrative Therapy to help clients see the power of their own story and allow me into that narrative to help redefine the messier or more broken parts. I also use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients pinpoint what they value most about their story and work toward acceptance and commitment in taking action steps toward their goals.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
