I utilize techniques and training from major marital and couples researchers (John Gottman, Alyson Armstrong, Rori Raye) designed to build deeper understanding and greater intimacy between the sexes.
My professional passion is helping people forge new, more positive pathways for themselves thereby creating more satisfying and fulfilling lives. I am an interactive psychologist who combines humor and gentle confrontation to help my clients change and grow. Life is often a struggle and can be challenging even at its best. It makes good sense to invite a professional to help traverse those rough spots along the way. This is what I do and what I love. Working with adult individuals struggling with life's challenging times and working to move forward towards a better life.

I help individuals struggling with feelings of emptiness and despair to make sense of destructive decisions and to repair broken relationships. Whether we were hurt in our younger years, in our marriage or other relationships, we all experience heartache. At times we may find ourselves stuck, unable to move through or past certain experiences and it is in these phases of life that feelings of emptiness, or the experience of shame, or the quiet desperation to feel alive again, consume us. When these experiences are not understood and cared for, they often lead to poor decisions and ruptured relationships.

My specialties: Loss & grief, life transition, traumas, parenting, couples/ marriage counseling , ADHD, PTSD, depressions and anxieties.
I perceive life as a journey, consisting of searching meaning and coping: Meaning in different roles and aspects of life motivates us to move forward; coping is strategies to get there from here. However, at different life stages, we often got stuck because of different reasons. Thus, either we no longer can see the life meaning(s) and/or our coping strategies are no longer effective. We are likely stuck under these circumstances, which leads to sufferings. I believe that counseling is a catalyst to facilitate the needed changes & adjustments to get unstuck and to have a meaningful life again.

You're used to handling responsibility. You know life is what you make of it and you normally feel pretty optimistic and accomplished. But lately you find yourself off-balance. You may regret things you've said or done because there was no time to really sort out the best path. BEFORE you cut off important foundation pieces- your marriage , career, activities and people you've loved that feel like they no longer fit, see me and together let's make sure they're not part of your protective alarm system, begging for perspective and healthier personal balance.

As a Marriage & Family Therapist I treat individuals, couples, and families, and consider the whole family system in my approach.
I find it a joy and a privilege to help you face difficult life challenges and improve the quality of your relationships. I believe the client-therapist relationship is a critical component of the therapeutic process. It is my priority to offer a warm and welcoming space for you to feel validated and empowered. Together, we will identify personal strengths, increase self-worth, explore family behavioral patterns and barriers to healthy relationships. I believe you already have the tools you need for change and personal growth. It takes a safe space to release emotional weight and begin to see life from a new perspective.

At it's core, therapy is a process of healing and change. The decision to address an addiction, change your struggling marriage or address the other issues that hold you back is a difficult, but important step. I work with you to strengthen your relationships, create intimate connections, and sort through the baggage of life. My approach is positive, supportive and challenging when needed. In addition to addiction work, I also do "general practitioner" work like depression, anxiety, couple/ marital therapy, and other mental health issues. My office is a safe and affirming space for all gender and sexual orientations.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
