Therapy exists not simply as a way to soothe and deal with what is bringing us in; dysfunctional relationships, anxiety or depression .
St Augustine once wrote “People travel to wonder at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars; and they pass by themselves without wondering.” Life asks a lot today. Our children need help with homework. Our jobs need us to produce more, our parents need us as age diminishes their abilities. After everything, one is left to wonder not at themselves, but at where all the time went?

My main areas of practice include but are not limited to: Anxiety, Depression , Eating disorders, Trauma, PTSD, Relationships/Relational Challenge, Crisis, etc.
I utilize a holistic and integrative perspective with a focus on client-centered therapy. This entails working from a wide array of techniques to focus on each individual’s needs and wants. I earned my MA in Counseling Psychology from Bastyr University an integrative program that utilizes a holistic approach to health and well-being. I have experience working in an inpatient and outpatient setting with individuals, families and groups. I am passionate about whole-person health, and it reflects in my everyday practice and work with clients. It's important to identify the root causes rather than just working to alleviate symptoms.

Many of the creative and expressive tools that I use to work with children are also helpful in treating trauma, anxiety, and depression in adults.
Hi! I'm Jackie and my superpower is connecting with young people. I've been working with children and adolescents from around the globe for over 25 years. As an educator, I became attuned to the developmental stages that shape a child's feelings and behavior. Now, as a therapist, I'm thrilled to connect with young people and their families in a way that strengthens their resilience and relationships as they grow. I received my MA in Counseling from NYU and a post-graduate certificate in Play Therapy from Antioch University where I discovered a passion for Play Therapy, Child-Parent Relationship Therapy, and Sand Tray Therapy.

My experience includes working with relationship challenges, affairs, sexual identity, depression , anxiety, high tech work related stress, career concerns, loss, infertility, parenting, and various life transitions.
The stressors of day to day tasks can drown out the voice that may have deeper connection to your intuitive and wiser self. Being in therapy can potentially allow you to listen to yourself in a unique and meaningful way. My hope is to provide an empathic environment to explore and challenge some of the barriers, often self-created, keeping you from your goals. I have over 15 years of experience working with adults, couples and families.

Some of the major issues I help clients navigate include anxiety, depression , trauma, intimacy issues, and adjustment-related concerns.
Healthy relationships are essential for everyone, yet that can be a very confusing and complicated task at times. I am passionate about fostering healthy relationships, whether that is with an intimate partner, friend, co-worker, or relative, and would be honored to help facilitate that in our sessions. Together we will explore your actions and choices as they relate to the many types of relationships within your life. Then we put together these puzzle pieces to understand the bigger picture of the influences behind your behavior.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
