I am an experienced pragmatic psychotherapist who also does psychological evaluations. My ideal client is one who has self doubts, experiences guilt and shame, yet has potential to be a highly fulfilled person. Such a person may have insecurities in work and relationships, yet be but one step away from doing well in these areas. I have had a wide exposure to a diverse set of problems in living in my career.

My clients range in age from adolescent up and through adulthood. They are navigating substance use and are often caught between use (experimental or ongoing) and the desire for a more positive lifestyle as something in their life is not working how they would like. My clients also include the families of those navigating substance use, often finding themselves in search of a balance between supporting their loved one while still living their own fulfilling lives. Regardless of who my client is, each deserves a life free of the chaos they are currently experiencing.

Acceptance might be the first step to change, but change is hard. I aim to create a supportive, holistic, empowering, and safe setting to process and understand what is specifically challenging for you. Often, my clients feel like they “don’t belong,” stuck in unwanted behaviors or looking to understand themselves better. I believe by attuning compassionately to our bodies and minds, as well as each other, we can sense what needs to change and heal. Also, I consider myself a very real person in the therapy space, which often includes understanding, laughter, radical acceptance, forgiveness, and open and honest communication.

Accepting New Patients! Hello, my name is Nicole Buckley, Licensed Clinical Therapist. My philosophy is that when we feel understood by another, we are able to untangle the issues that lead us into therapy in the first place. This can help us to develop ourselves and our lives on a deeper level. Therapy is a special opportunity to be understood by another person. I also provide a warm, genuine and collaborative style to help my clients work towards change. My goal is to provide a safe place for healing and personal growth.

When we experience challenging events in our lives, it is human nature to seek to avoid uncomfortable memories, emotions, or body sensations related to these events. Much like the body possesses the innate power to heal a cut on your leg, the mind is equipped with this same intelligence. Using suspension of judgment and psychoeducation, I provide knowledge and a safe container for clients to access their inner healing intelligence and find meaning in difficult experiences. I am also deeply passionate about harm reduction and I have dedicated many years of my career to addressing my clients' relationship with substances.

If you're reading this, you or someone you love are in some level of distress. I'm glad you're here. Keep reading. People generally do the best they can with what they know. Sometimes in life, we need additional support in order to work on areas that are beyond us- either because we've experienced trauma, tried everything we know, or we're too entangled. Sadly, many people wait so long to seek help that things are extremely overwhelming by the time they call. The good news is, you're here now and things can get better. I offer a free initial consultation, so please feel free to call and speak with me.

I aim to provide a safe space for my clients so that they may experience greater personal growth, healing, and insight. You may be trying to face your emotional scars alone. Yet together, we can explore these topics that may be difficult for you. I want to encourage your growth in self-compassion and self-worth as we work to reframe your unfavorable coping mechanisms. Life is a journey with plenty of obstacles to overcome, yet taking this step to live differently, with more hope, and to live more authentically, is worthwhile.

Accepting new clients: Life presents many challenges and everyone struggles at some point with mental health issues. Whether the struggle is a result of a loss (loved one, job, etc), divorce, anxiety, depression (perimenopause), or feelings of being overwhelmed, we are impacted and it throws us off course. Many times, we tell ourselves, it’s ok, it’ll get better soon. However, the struggle continues and relief does not come. We may sink deeper into the issue and feel worse or ashamed. If you feel like this speaks to you, let’s connect. I can help you navigate these thoughts and feelings so you experience relief. You are not alone.

Dr. Taylor has significant experience working with individuals with addiction, trauma, infidelity, and chronic pain or illness impacting sexuality. She understands how one’s life can change in the blink of an eye, and how goals and values can shift when life does. It is during these times that individuals, couples, and/or families, can experience varying degrees of difficultly with the transition. How an individual responds is neither right nor wrong, because everyone has their own process and journey in life.

Everyone has a story to tell and I'm here to listen to yours, to provide a warm, nonjudgmental space to reflect on your experiences and create lasting positive change that matters most to you. Anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, and major life changes can often make us feel detached from ourselves and those around us. It is an absolute privilege for me to provide a space where you can feel supported and understood. I specialize in my work with adolescents and young adults, with extensive experience in this demographic. I also assist adults with anxiety and addiction and help couples improve communication.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
