I'm honored when clients contact me because I know it takes a lot of courage to reach out when you feel stuck in your life and don't know how to move forward. I recognize there are many ways a person or couple can feel stuck, including low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and lack of direction in their life. I see therapy as a collaborative effort between client and therapist, and requires more than just listening (though that is important) but also requires a framework or strategy to help individuals discover who they are beyond the problems that prompt them to seek a therapist.

I work with adults and couples , 18 and older, treating a broad range of diagnoses including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and ASD.
Creating an engaged therapeutic relationship is where we start. I became a therapist because I believe in the power of relationships. Moved by my own experiences, I wanted to guide others to push past perceived limitations, obstacles, and fear to live a full and meaningful life. We all have the ability to grow, heal, and move forward. I have over 20 years of experience providing individual and group therapy, focusing on parent coaching, family systems work, and navigating depression and anxiety. I have sat across and heard many stories of loss and courage with an open heart - let's work together to explore yours.

I specialize in working with clients who have a variety of concerns such as stress, depression, life transitions, anxiety, and relationship issues.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist who believes in the resilience of the human spirit. Living in society can seem chaotic and often feeling heard by others may seem impossible, yet we yearn for love and harmony. Too often, we wind up distancing ourselves because it may seem easier, but then the result is feelings of alienation and loneliness. We add to these feelings of loneliness by erecting barriers between ourselves and others which only perpetuate the problem. Therapy can offer a means of releasing energy so that barriers are removed permitting new possibilities for a more content existence.

Additional services include: specialized treatment programs for couples , programs for people struggling with shyness and social anxiety, and personalized social-skills training programs for business and/or personal use.
I can best describe myself as a Competency-based, Cognitive-Behavioral, Family Systems therapist. Practically speaking, that means I have great respect for the challenges we all face in our lives and consider most so called "problem-behaviors" as logical adaptations to difficult situations that simply have outlived their usefulness. Therapy sessions strive to identify out dated problem solving strategies and replace them with newer more effective solutions. While I utilize a number of treatment techniques, I rely most heavily on Cognitive-Behavioral, Skills Training and Family Systems approaches.

Are you in a relationship and still feel alone? Do you find yourself feeling angry all the time? Have you started to lose hope in your relationship ? It doesn't have to be that way. Most couples learn that it isn't their partner they are tired of, rather the problem is the negative cycle that takes over every time they try to talk or connect. Individually, we can focus on easing anxiety and depression, boosting your self-esteem and setting boundaries where necessary.

It is very important to me that the therapist-client relationship is collaborative and based in trust.
Your story matters. Peoples’ stories can get messy and I am not afraid to sit in that mess with my clients. I use Narrative Therapy to help clients see the power of their own story and allow me into that narrative to help redefine the messier or more broken parts. I also use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients pinpoint what they value most about their story and work toward acceptance and commitment in taking action steps toward their goals.

Our time together will be rooted in a collaborative relationship that offers safety, support, acceptance, and promotes trust so that you are able to make the right changes in your life that make sense for you.
The search for a counselor can be an overwhelming process in itself and taking the step schedule that first appointment isn’t easy. I believe that we are made to be in relationship with others and when there are difficulties in those relationships, we suffer. Whether you are struggling with family, friends or coworker issues, I’d like to help you and do my best to honor the courage and vulnerability it takes to seek out help.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
