I enjoy working with a variety of clients, but those who struggle with marital conflict, sexual issues and addictions, depression, anxiety, adolescent issues and anger management make up a majority of my caseload.
"If your struggling with a difficult life situation or a personal pattern give me a call. By using my 30 yrs. of experience, knowledge and support in the counseling field I can hopefully help you heal, grow and then change into who you really want to be. I can try to help you through it and help you change those patterns that have kept you stuck. To take control of your life and yourself you often need to be challenged and helped to 'do it different'. I can help you with this process."

Some of the emotional dis-regulation we see in adolescence is the teen figuring out how to express themselves, in their own unique way, with their peers, their family, and in terms of social justice. Teens want to be understood, to be accepted, however they often do not want to work hard to help you understand them.

Our counselors work to connect with your child or teen quickly so we can get to work on the issues.
Our counselors work with young children to adolescents on issues such as school performance, anxiety, relationships, and behavior. We also provide parent coaching to support parents efforts to help their children and family thrive. We believe the family is a system, so we try to also work with parents in various supportive capacities. This includes coaching to create a better family as well as helping divorcing parents co-parent more effectively.

As a long-time teacher, I love the energy that children and teens bring to their world. When changes in the family or challenges in the child or teen 's social or academic world arise, difficult emotions and related behaviors can be a problem. No matter what age, children, teens, and even parents are always learning and need support to manage those challenges.

The stressors of day to day tasks can drown out the voice that may have deeper connection to your intuitive and wiser self. Being in therapy can potentially allow you to listen to yourself in a unique and meaningful way. My hope is to provide an empathic environment to explore and challenge some of the barriers, often self-created, keeping you from your goals. I have over 15 years of experience working with adults, couples and families.

I love finding joy in small everyday moments. My goal is to work alongside clients in finding their own pockets of joy through the different seasons of life. I am passionate about looking at how our automatic thoughts affect our everyday lives and restructuring the way we see and experience the world. I believe this is especially important for those experiencing anxiety, depression, traumatic memories, and life transitions. I support looking at interpersonal conflicts and relationships through the lens of attachment theory and discovering how we can all work to become securely attached to others and have a positive view of self.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist who believes in the resilience of the human spirit. Living in society can seem chaotic and often feeling heard by others may seem impossible, yet we yearn for love and harmony. Too often, we wind up distancing ourselves because it may seem easier, but then the result is feelings of alienation and loneliness. We add to these feelings of loneliness by erecting barriers between ourselves and others which only perpetuate the problem. Therapy can offer a means of releasing energy so that barriers are removed permitting new possibilities for a more content existence.

"Love says, 'I am everything.' Wisdom says, 'I am nothing." Between these two, my life flows.” Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj Coming back from Vietnam, I found myself drawn to the human psyche and our ability to shape our existence. This exploration led to an intensive study of eastern and western psychological principles and practices. Along this journey, I found my calling - to recognize the innate goodness in all people and help them discover their inner power to transform their lives. I dedicated myself to helping people know they are more than the problems they want to overcome.

Your story matters. Peoples’ stories can get messy and I am not afraid to sit in that mess with my clients. I use Narrative Therapy to help clients see the power of their own story and allow me into that narrative to help redefine the messier or more broken parts. I also use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients pinpoint what they value most about their story and work toward acceptance and commitment in taking action steps toward their goals.

The search for a counselor can be an overwhelming process in itself and taking the step schedule that first appointment isn’t easy. I believe that we are made to be in relationship with others and when there are difficulties in those relationships, we suffer. Whether you are struggling with family, friends or coworker issues, I’d like to help you and do my best to honor the courage and vulnerability it takes to seek out help.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
