I especially love helping women discover their inherent strength and resilience through mindful self-compassion.
Loving presence is at the heart of my practice. I trust the inner wisdom of each individual and view the therapist-client relationship as a collaboration. We all experience challenging seasons of life. In difficult times, we may realize that our habitual behaviors and patterns of relating to others are out of alignment with our core values. In our work together, I will gently encourage self-inquiry in service of realigning with your wise, authentic self. I believe that the body holds a deep wisdom that each one of us can ultimately learn to trust.

Positive Psychology is a valuable tool for reaching new heights, finding one's goals, and feeling supported during challenging times. A trusted psychologist tries to remind others of their strengths, how to center, maintain self-regulation and feel more solid in oneself. I specialize in supporting women , college-aged individuals, young women and teens. I have always focused on anxiety and depression and find them quite treatable when one is motivated.

I specialize in working with trauma and women 's issues and have a focus on supporting women who have been in harmful romantic relationships.
My focus in therapy is on helping you create a life that you want to be present for, whatever that means to you. If you don't know, that's ok too (and you're in good company). We can figure it out together. I emphasize a nonjudgmental approach that focuses on balancing acceptance and change. I often work with people who are dissatisfied with their lives because they have high emotional sensitivity and have difficulty managing their behaviors, emotions, and relationships as a result of past invalidation. We can work together to both understand and change your unhelpful patterns and help you learn to accept yourself just as you are.

I counsel children, teens and their parents, as well as adults and couples who are experiencing a wide range of psychological and relationship difficulties due to parent child conflict, major life transitions, grief and loss and recent or historic trauma. My approach is systemic, meaning that I try to understand human problems in terms of the complex set of psychological and social systems in which they are embedded - family, social, cultural, educational and emotional experiences. I have specialized training and experience in treating anxiety and depression and trauma/PTSD using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Every human enters this world as a whole and complete being. As we navigate through modern society, we often find ourselves drifting away from our natural state of wholeness, resulting in challenging emotions and varying degrees of personal and relational distress. I take a holistic approach to therapy, supporting my clients as they rediscover themselves and their intrinsic wholeness. I work with couples and families from an attachment-based perspective, aiding in the development of safety and effective communication. I believe that the possibility for healing is endless within the context of a secure relationship.

In 35 years of practice as a substance use disorder counselor I have come to the conclusion that individualized, holistic treatment is as good or better than group treatment in many cases. I try to include a client’s significant others in the treatment process whenever possible because support outside the treatment office is crucial, and educated support is the most beneficial. I really believe in lifelong personal growth and see recovery as a foundation to that, not as an end in itself. Recovery works best when it is a process more of running towards the unfoldment of one's natural strengths than away from "bad" choices.

I have experience working with couples, families and individuals of all ages from a variety of cultures/ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, and religious beliefs, as well as LGBTQIA+. My approach is integrated, operating from a systems theory background, with a lens that is relational and informed by awareness of how societal factors impact experience. Working as a certified chemical dependency counselor, I address not only the individual substance user, but the impact of use on loved ones. I see change happening through shifts from a person seeing themselves as the problem to seeing themselves as a person up against a problem.

Are you living the life you desire? Are you paralyzed by anxiety or depression? Do you want to find more peace, fun, and intimacy in your personal relationships? Anais Nin once said, "There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." This quote underscores my belief that change and growth are available to us all; we simply have to be willing for the process to unfold. You can create the life that you want. I will help you get there.

Are you standing on the threshold of a heartbreaking or unimaginable tragedy? It could be a midlife transition, a death, an empty nest, a divorce, a different unspeakable loss, or even a gnawing pain that haunts you from the past that you don't know how to shake. Despite how good you are at "holding it together," I understand how exhausting & painful it can be to navigate loss. I've been in this place before too, & I want you to know that hope is waiting for you even if you feel breathless, broken, or lost. My work is all about helping you claim your precious life despite the pain & maybe even because of it!

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
