UNFORTUNATELY, I AM NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME. I work with individuals who desire change in their life and want to experience a greater sense of well being and inner peace. As your therapist, I act as a guide, collaborating and helping you to access the larger sense of who you really are in the world, assisting in the process of deep internal discovery, and ensuring that our time together unfolds at a pace that brings about the change you desire. I create a safe, confidential and respectful environment and support you in your journey to overcome whatever you struggle with, or are challenged by in your life.

I am a psychotherapist and bodyworker in private practice for over28 years. I bring curiosity, compassion, and respect to my work with young adults and adults. I see our work as a dance between an interactive exchange and thoughtful reflection. Calling on the wisdom of many approaches, including Somatic Experiencing [Body- Based], Psychodrama, the work of Murray Bowen [Family Systems], and mindfulness practices, I work with individuals addressing a wide range of issues. Much of my work is focused on relationship and attachment. I especially work with individuals who have had challenging or traumatic relational histories.

I'm a Swiss-trained Jungian Analyst (www.jungiananalystvt.com) who views the analytic encounter as a deep and soulful collaboration within which we examine the origins, patterns and futility of disruptive unconscious complexes and behaviors while working to strengthen the soul's authentic, meaning-making, imaginative capability - what James Hillman termed the "poetic basis of mind". To facilitate this process, I aspire to create an environment of trust and confidence in which we engage the psyche, where one's inner world of thoughts, feelings, images, fantasies & dreams can be fully expressed, explored and reflected upon with compassion & without judgment.

Existential therapy believes that although humans are essentially alone in the world, they long to be connected with themselves and others. I seek to avoid using models that may label people. Truth is discovered subjectively, by each individual. My practice is often, directly aimed at collaboratively making sense of one's experience(s) in order to forge new meanings and develop new identities. From a strengths based perspective, I collaborate with my clients to increase self-awareness and understanding in order to transform fragile or confusing relationships into ones that can be more clear, strong and connected. This includes a specialty in working with couples.

Change is possible. Sometimes it comes from acceptance strategies and sometimes from change strategies. I utilize many mind-body techniques, including Trauma Releasing Exercises®, Chinese Medicine, EMDR, and Emmett Techniques, to help change happen. Sometimes it takes more than talk. Sometimes the most challenging part is starting.

My clinical work has consisted of treating a variety of clients with different backgrounds and concerns. I am particularly interested and experienced in treating interpersonal relationship problems, self-esteem concerns, family of origin issues, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, codependency and LGBTQ issues. I enjoy facilitating individual and couples therapy with adults. As a compassionate, yet assertive clinician, I work with clients to meet self-identified goals. I view myself more as a guide and mentor than expert. My clients have described me as "down to earth" and "personable."

As a clinical social worker, I believe that we all have unique strengths and capacities to face the challenges in our lives. I work with my clients in a collaborative, empowering way. Through the therapy process, solutions and plans to move forward reveal themselves, as you grow more confident in your strengths, intuition and your vision for your life. Working with the stories and thoughts we carry about ourselves and the world, we work to create new ideas, beliefs and behaviors that will lead to a more fulfilling life.

Currently accepting new clients. Life can be complex: relationships, family, school, work. Our lives can be further challenged by the unique aspects of our times. We are under constant bombardment of information, straining our ability to focus and compartmentalize. Factors such as trauma, shame and guilt further complicate things. My approach is to help "break it down and make it simple". This means helping people untangle their thoughts, pressures and feelings, while collaboratively devising plans aimed at learning to manage and alleviate whatever symptoms are causing distress.

Accepting new clients! In person & online. All identities welcome. We can do this together. You can achieve connection, confidence, and a calm sense of safety. These are birthrights that can be buried by responses to life experiences, long or short term. Many patterns labeled “disorders”- such as anxiety, depression, addictions, grief, and painful attachment patterns- are actually logical responses to early environments & cultural oppression. Engrained beliefs & relationship blueprints can quietly develop. Transcending outdated wiring is possible & maybe necessary for easing disorder symptoms & for creating a whole, authentic self.

I am currently maintaining a waitlist. Adolescence and adulthood are challenging; coping with anxiety, depression, and the daily barriers of life can easily complicate things further. You may struggle to cope with and find balance between the frustrations of school, relationships, work, and family. Maybe you feel it is time to focus on personal growth and seek harmony. Taking the first steps can feel extraordinarily challenging but I will be there to provide support and guidance within your journey. I believe everyone has the capacity to manage life's challenges and I can provide you the skills to do so.

I work with people who wish to develop the self-understanding and self-compassion to better support themselves. I believe that our minds and bodies are resilient and doing the best they can to keep us safe and alive in the face of unmet needs and unjust social systems, and that each person embodies a deep wisdom informed by their unique life story. Sometimes, protective patterns that were once necessary during challenging or traumatic experiences no longer serve our wellbeing. Together, we can celebrate and strengthen what is working and bring gentle curiosity to what isn't.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
