Hello, and welcome! I am currently accepting new clients. I believe that all people are the experts of their own experiences and capable of meaningful growth. The therapeutic relationship can be a supportive vessel for exploring a wide range of concerns and topics. These might include, but are not limited to: anxiety, depression, trauma, substance-use, life transitions, relationships, and identity. Together, we can explore existing patterns of thinking, communicating, and being... seeking to build upon what is working, and gently shift what isn't.

I am a psychotherapist and bodyworker in private practice for over28 years. I bring curiosity, compassion, and respect to my work with young adults and adults. I see our work as a dance between an interactive exchange and thoughtful reflection. Calling on the wisdom of many approaches, including Somatic Experiencing [Body- Based], Psychodrama, the work of Murray Bowen [Family Systems], and mindfulness practices, I work with individuals addressing a wide range of issues. Much of my work is focused on relationship and attachment. I especially work with individuals who have had challenging or traumatic relational histories.

As a seasoned psychotherapist with over 25 years of experience, I work with both individuals and couples and specialize in working with women. I am experienced and comfortable working with a variety of concerns including anxiety, relationship difficulties, trauma, stress, depression and life transitions. Grief and losses of all types are special interests. It is certainly not necessary though to have identified a problem, as I also work with people who are feeling stuck or unfulfilled in life to find ways to move forward differently. Couples most often contact me to work through relationship problems and restore connection.

As humans, we crave connection and community, but it can feel difficult to achieve in our everyday lives. We find ourselves looking to better understand ourselves, our experiences, and our interactions with the world around us. We are made up of so many different parts and I believe in the importance of seeing and acknowledging all of those pieces. Sometimes we are told - directly or indirectly - that we hold a singular role. This may cause us to try to fit in a mold that does not hold all the pieces we value about ourselves.

Do you feel like you're constantly walking on eggshells? Maybe you're second-guessing yourself more often than not. One minute everything seems okay, and the next you're spiraling, wondering if you’re the problem. You might feel confused, stuck, or even addicted to a relationship dynamic that leaves you emotionally drained — whether it’s with a parent, partner, or friend. You may have even started googling terms like narcissism, gaslighting, or toxic relationships, searching for something that puts words to what you’ve been experiencing. You’re not alone — and you’re not “too sensitive” or “crazy.”

Existential therapy believes that although humans are essentially alone in the world, they long to be connected with themselves and others. I seek to avoid using models that may label people. Truth is discovered subjectively, by each individual. My practice is often, directly aimed at collaboratively making sense of one's experience(s) in order to forge new meanings and develop new identities. From a strengths based perspective, I collaborate with my clients to increase self-awareness and understanding in order to transform fragile or confusing relationships into ones that can be more clear, strong and connected. This includes a specialty in working with couples.

I love working with older adolescents and young adults who are navigating issues related to anxiety, depression, perfectionism. I am passionate about helping those who are misperceived as having it all together, but are actually fighting an all too often invisible struggle beneath the surface of that pressure. If this describes you, I recognize just how significant of a step you are taking by acknowledging your feelings and seeking help. I also enjoy joining clients in exploring their relationship with concepts of eating, exercise, and body image, working to cultivate a life-long relationship of nurturance and compassion.

I provide help for couples who feel as though they don't know what else to do to make things different in their relationships and are experiencing emotional distress due to a variety of reasons from: communication problems, conflict, and distancing, to an overall feeling of disconnect with their partners.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
