I believe that the right course of treatment for a client depends on who they are, what they bring into session, and how they are comfortable working. I enjoy helping individuals make meaning out of their experiences, build awareness of self, and have a space to be heard, validated and heal. I feel that a strong relationship between client and therapist is what allows for growth and the deepest level of work to be done. I strive to create a welcoming, non-judgmental, and empathetic space for that purpose.

Many of us relate to ourselves and others with a nagging sense that we are not enough, that we neither project nor embody the person we want to be. We operate from the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves and that others tell about us – and often, these lenses focus on our perceived deficiencies, mistakes, and shame-filled moments. We tend to be our own harshest critics. In our work together, I will help you identify the stories that shape your life. We will explore how these stories support and challenge how you want to show up for yourself, your relationships, and the world.

Your mind is often grappling with the question of “am I good enough?” You are overwhelmed trying to navigate the day to day while feeling the impacts of trauma, anxiety, sadness, guilt, and/or anger. Relationships can be difficult; it is hard to feel safe and trust that you can depend on the people in your life. The weight of these challenges can take a toll on your daily life and overall wellness. You may yearn for a closer connection and effective communication in your relationship. You may also desire fulfillment in life, calmness in your day-to-day, and the capacity to sift through your stressors and cope.

Stuck. Overwhelmed. Lost. Frustrated. Ashamed. These are deeply painful emotions. I work with adults aged 18 and up, and these are just some of the words that many of my clients use to describe the pain that prompted them to seek therapy. For you, it might be a life transition or a difficult relationship. You might be struggling with religious/church-related trauma, or the disorienting experience of "deconstructing" a belief system that no longer fits you. Maybe, you've just been feeling sad, disconnected, or worried. No matter what, we usually want the same things: freedom. Peace. A deeper sense of and confidence in who we are.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
