I conceptualize therapy as a collaborative process in which therapist and client determine treatment content and goals, working to create an environment of compassion, challenge and insight capable of motivating those disruptive changes which constitute so much of the meaning of therapy. In attempting to individualize treatment, I cultivate an integrative responsiveness utilizing those techniques that seem best able to serve the client's needs and promote therapeutic goals. Often these goals extend beyond symptom relief to include the enhancement of psychological capacities and resources through self exploration and discovery in the context of a safe and authentic therapeutic relationship.

I am now maintaining a waitlist; contact for scheduling options. Adolescence and adulthood are challenging; coping with anxiety, depression, and the daily barriers of life can easily complicate things further. You may struggle to cope with and find balance between the frustrations of school, relationships, work, and family. Maybe you feel it is time to focus on personal growth and seek harmony. Taking the first steps can feel extraordinarily challenging but I will be there to provide support and guidance within your journey. I believe everyone has the capacity to manage life's challenges and I can provide you the skills to do so.

I'm dedicated to helping individuals discover and enhance their emotional capacities. I hope to raise awareness within the sense of self, leading to stronger interpersonal relationships and a more fulfilling life. Through the therapeutic experience of being understood by another in a safe and genuine relationship, individuals develop an increased kindness for themselves and others, and are able to experience a more authentic view of themself. This self-awareness often leads us to new ways of relating to others, increased awareness and tolerance for difficult emotions, and the transformation of destructive patterns in our lives.

I believe that our mental health 'symptoms' are often our psyche's way of calling us to a different way of living. Each struggle in our lives is an opportunity for self-awareness and personal growth. Through many years of experience, I have developed an integrated approach utilizing the best practices in the field of psychotherapy. My approach adapts to the uniqueness of each individual and their own personal story, beliefs and interests. The foundation of my work is the development of a meaningful, trusting relationship with my clients.

Therapy is still somewhat stigmatized in our society. I believe a connection & relationship of trust is at the heart of therapy. This relationship is important because the therapist and client need to work as a team. The therapist doesn't dispense advice. Instead, a good therapist listens attentively. Then together they can discover what is leaving the client feeling stuck and help the client move forward and find happiness.

NEW openings....I draw from a humanistic perspective that puts the quality of the therapeutic relationship first. The mind is resilient to stressors and traumas, exquisitely so, and therapy is a restorative space that promotes health and psychological flexibility. I am expert at tuning into and facilitating rich and textured conversations. My formal education, training, and reading in the subject of psychology is extensive- but the balance of a therapy is in how we manage "content and process" together. The art and science of psychotherapy has been my passion for 10 plus years. It is an absolute honor to witness and hold space.

New clients welcome (07/22/24) - If you are struggling with strong feelings or relationships then you have come to the right place. Difficult experiences can overwhelm us at different stages in our lives which can lead to poor sleep/appetite, difficulties to connect, racing thoughts, and issues with finding ways to avoid these feelings. Maybe you have had some challenging or stressful experiences in the past, or they may be happening right now. If these experiences sound familiar to you, then perhaps you feel stuck in your life and don't smile as often as you would like. This can be difficult to carry alone.

Are you a regular, everyday guy looking for therapy, but you're afraid you'll be stuck with a therapist who is going to try and convince you that you need to cry more or that you need to get in touch with your "feminine side"? This is not what men need in a therapist. Whether it's anxiety, divorce, anger, suicidal thoughts, or you're just trying to get through your day, I will completely shatter your image of what you think therapy is like. There's no meditation, yoga, or dance therapy here, just practical, common sense help to put you back on track. Call me for a free 15-minute consultation!

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
