Hi! I work with individuals, couples, and families with adult children who are confident in some areas of their life, such as career, friendships or creative pursuits, and are struggling/seeking support in other areas such as relationships and/or life transitions. I believe happy, healthy relationships and active participation in life happens when people question and choose their thoughts, feel their feelings, discover safety and connection in the present, continue learning about their environment, take care of their bodies, and trust their power and/or a Higher Power to create a life that mirrors the Love that they are.

I want to fully understand what's on your mind and explore all the angles with you. Many of your maladaptive thoughts and behaviors have been modeled to you for a lifetime, and when we start from there, you will see it’s not your fault and you’re not alone. Although I always come with compassion, I do not aim to dismiss your behaviors. I aim to expose them with you and help you observe what 'is', and take action from that place. There is always a transpersonal undertone, and our exploration will consist of breaking down the truth behind your thoughts and beliefs, which will gradually lead to innate peace and wholeness.

Whatever brought you here, I welcome it and I welcome you. We all need a space where we feel seen, supported, and understood without judgment. As a pre-licensed mental health counselor, I bring both clinical training and decades of lived experience to the therapeutic relationship. Before becoming a therapist, I ran a community café where people showed up not just for coffee, but for connection. That experience shaped how I hold space today: with presence, care, and deep respect for your story.

My work focuses on trauma and early wounds, starting with how those experiences affect you today. Using somatic and mindfulness tools, I will work with you to build awareness of how your body responds in the present moment to memories and stressors, either recent or in the past. Over time, we will build on that awareness so that you begin to have more choices and exercise more agency in moments when you have uncomfortable or difficult internal experiences. At the same time, it is critical to the work that we understand how larger social and political forces impact you - as trauma and as they have shaped you more broadly.

Over the years, I have recognized that each of us has a wisdom that resides within. This wisdom within our mind/body system holds the solution. We are designed for balance- yes, we do get off-balance. I will help you understand what your body/mind is attempting to communicate. It is often a simple process. We all have beliefs that originate from our culture, our society, and our family. Some beliefs are helpful, some are not. It is our beliefs that guide our behavior. Beliefs are the 'fuel' that move us. We will discover the 'outdated' beliefs.

Motherhood is a transformative experience that is often beautiful, overwhelming, lonely, and exhausting all at once. If you're a new mom who's feeling anxious, sad, or like you're barely holding it together, you are not alone. Perhaps your birth or postpartum experience didn’t go as planned, or you’re grieving a loss that still feels heavy. You miss feeling like you, and you’re not sure how to get back there. I work with mothers navigating the emotional ups and downs of pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood. Together, we’ll slow down, create space for your needs, and help you connect to this new version of yourself.

Therapy with Practical Spirit Counseling can help you learn communication & self awareness skills that improve your relationship with yourself & with others. Most people appreciate being heard & many people want to be understood more fully. I often hear the wish expressed for improved communication so relationships are less tense & “just worked better.” Better relationships often means: less yelling; increased freedom to be oneself; trust that each person’s point of view matters; time for each person to be heard; & confidence for expressing difficult truths without hurting other people’s feelings.

For many of us, talking about our challenges is not enough. Our traumas live in our bodies. I now offer an integrative somatic modality that combines talk and touch. Rosen Method Bodywork grows our awareness of how and what we are holding. Muscle tension reveals how we have adapted around painful memories, emotions, and beliefs. Tension in the body has helped us cope, but now may limit our breath, relationships, and our full sense of aliveness. As the unconscious becomes conscious, memories and emotions often arise for us to be with and explore. I am offering discounted Rosen Method Bodywork sessions as I work toward certification.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
