My primary modality of psychotherapy is Internal Family Systems (IFS).
As both a psychiatrist and therapist, my approach to treatment is unique. I offer psychotherapy together with medication management, if medication is indicated. My work with clients focuses on psychotherapy and wellness/self-care practices, while keeping medication use to a minimum and/or exploring safe reduction of medication. I do not see clients for medication management only services.

This results in enhanced interpersonal effectiveness, stronger emotional boundaries, decreased anxiety, effective management of life events including the transition to parenthood, and increased overall life satisfaction. My training as a family therapist means that the relationships and experiences that have shaped you remain central, and my work is trauma-informed, grounded in attachment theory, highly relational, and evidence-based. To contact me, please e-mail (do not call, I don't often check voicemail).

My work is informed by feminist theory, mindfulness and body-based practices, internal family systems therapy and EMDR.
Becoming a mother is one of the most impactful and powerful transitions in a woman’s life. Pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period are an emotional and physical rollercoaster filled with joy, sadness, anxiety, hope, grief, exhaustion, and beauty. We accomplish this by establishing goals and working collaboratively to change behaviors and maximize supports within the family and community.
*Not accepting new clients at this time* I help people overcome challenges and make changes in their lives by providing a balance of comforting support and honest feedback. My goal is to help individuals become the best versions of themselves. My approach, although individualized to each person, draws on strategies which empower clients to find their own strengths and can include cognitive behavioral, dialectical, and person-centered interventions.

Adolescence is a peak time for mental health vulnerabilities and you or someone in your family may need support through this.
I specialize in supporting young adults, including college students, and older teens. I aim to partner with clients to help them develop a strong sense of self, healthy relationships, appropriate boundaries, and effective coping skills. With so many choices and options in this 21st century, it’s not unusual to feel paralyzed, anxious or depressed, especially during life's transition periods. Suddenly it may feel as if there is no “right choice” or even “a choice”, which can trigger symptoms of depression and anxiety which affect our self-care, relationships and school/professional lives.

As a clinical social worker, I believe that we all have unique strengths and capacities to face the challenges in our lives. I work with my clients in a collaborative, empowering way. Through the therapy process, solutions and plans to move forward reveal themselves, as you grow more confident in your strengths, intuition and your vision for your life. Working with the stories and thoughts we carry about ourselves and the world, we work to create new ideas, beliefs and behaviors that will lead to a more fulfilling life.

I use Community Reinforcement and Family Training procedures to help you identify factors maintaining your loved one's substance use, teach you effective communication skills, how to stop enabling while rewarding their progress towards sobriety, and when and how to ask them to get treatment.
If you have a loved one with an addiction, you experience a dilemma. One the one hand, you want to keep your loved one safe. On the other hand, you don't want to enable continued substance use. If possible, you want to help them decrease their use and get into treatment of their own. Your loved one's substance use may be making you miserable and interfering with your friendships, work, education, and your relationships with other family members. You may have been told that you must admit you're powerless over your loved one's substance use. You're hoping there are other options.

Currently not accepting new clients. Life can be complex: relationships, family , school, work. Our lives can be further challenged by the unique aspects of our times. We are under constant bombardment of information, straining our ability to focus and compartmentalize. Factors such as trauma, shame and guilt further complicate things. My approach is to help "break it down and make it simple". This means helping people untangle their thoughts, pressures and feelings, while collaboratively devising plans aimed at learning to manage and alleviate whatever symptoms are causing distress.

Therapeutic methods include Sensorimotor, Internal Family Systems, Directed Mindfulness, Buddhist and Feminist Psychology.
Certified Sensorimotor, IFS trained, Psychotherapist, offering Supervision, Sensorimotor Consultation, and psychotherapy. The development of a gentle curiosity of one's internal experience becomes the basis for compassion and authentic expression. This contemplative relationship with the self can then expand, with clarity and grace, the way in which we connect and relate to others. Therapeutic style is interactive, while encouraging the client's inner consciousness to guide the process at a safe pace. Use of somatic, systems, and strength based models that view individuals as having an innate propensity toward growth and health.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
