My hope with each person is that we will create a space together in which a unique healing relationship may unfold.
The goal is not just symptom remission, which is also important of course, but on an expansion of your capacity to find meaning and enjoyment in your life. You, as the client, are asked to: show up regularly; be curious about how you are experiencing your life; be open to alternate possibilities, viewpoints, and ways of experiencing yourself.

Humor is useful with couples, families or teens.
Often our relationships take on patterns that repeat throughout our lives, and finding those patterns can help us change. For parenting I like to use skill building; when a parent knows what they are going to do, they tend to be able to stay patient.

My motto is: "Life is an Adventure". I have worked in the Mental Health field across many settings and with all age groups. As the years pass and my experience deepens, I find that my approach is leaning more and more towards Positive Psychology. While I am skilled and knowledgeable about how to help solve problems, work through issues and reduce symptoms, I also feel that it is my job to help people to access the strengths and assets that they already have or can develop to help them towards healing. I am currently certified as an EMDR Practitioner.

Today is an incredibly difficult time to be navigating careers, relationships, and life in general. Many of the people I have been working with are coming into adulthood and are looking to better their lives and overcome the trauma and issues they are faced with. These clients are looking to get a better handle on their triggers and to be more supportive of themself.

Loss and trauma come in all shapes and sizes. The death of a loved one, the loss of relationships, traumatic events, and various life changes (even ones that seem to be typical) can lead to feelings of intense sadness, confusion, anger, and anxiety. They can impact our day-to-day functioning, our relationships with others, our jobs, our sleep, and our overall wellbeing. Too often, problems we could manage or avoid in the past become barriers to living quality lives, and we're left feeling hopeless and alone.

We specialize in working with individuals and couples, utilizing an array of modalities including EMDR, Animal-Assisted Psychotherapy, Ego State Therapy, DBT, and Emotionally Focused Therapy as an integral part of individual and couples therapy sessions.
The aftermath of trauma can feel both daunting and undefined. You may feel like you don’t know yourself anymore. The idea of who you are becoming may bring even more uncertainty. You may notice that your relationships are falling apart, causing you to feel isolated, yet still yearning for connection. I’m dedicated to providing you with a safe and non-judgmental space where you can start to make sense of it all. Slowly, you’ll learn to feel and identify emotions which will enable you to process your past. Eventually, your nervous system may find equilibrium again. Gradually, your body can learn to let go.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
