Compassionate, respectful and straightforward psychotherapy. I work with people who are struggling with decisions, feelings and situations that may feel unmanageable. This can look like renegotiating your relationship with substance use, exploring relationship stress, learning about boundaries, managing the demands of care-giving, coping with chronic pain and illness, grieving a loss or some combination of all of the above. I do a lot of listening. But therapy also looks like practicing grounding exercises to learn how to calm an anxiety attack, creating a family tree or gaining new insight on the story of your life.

Discovering the root causes of suffering, anxiety, and depression is difficult work. Using mindfulness techniques coupled with deep presence, I work with people to help create the life they would like to live. For over twenty years, I have honed my skills as an empathic listener. Without understanding, we find ourselves repeating patterns that are painful and unfulfilling. Using techniques from a variety of therapeutic models, I try to find the right approach for each person to come to a deeper understanding of themselves

Do you feel like life is always overwhelming? Do you feel alone? Are you using distractions (substances, food, devices) to soothe yourself which is causing more suffering instead of bringing relief? Our culture today pushes for faster, better, stronger which can be painful. It leads to patterns and behaviors that cut us off from experiencing freedom, joy and ease. I work with teenagers and adults who have found that their "old ways" are more causing more suffering than comfort and they are ready to open to something new.

Consent and relational safety are very important to me. While I will have some techniques, information, or exercises to offer, the majority of what I expect you will find helpful in our relationship is genuine connection, consistent curiosity and compassion, trust in your brilliance and wisdom, and humility about the many ways to live, heal, and be. I identify as mad, a psychiatric survivor, fat, queer, covid cautious and have experienced religious trauma and nihilistic crisis.

Together we will identify solutions that reduce anxiety, lift depression, improve self-esteem, heal trauma, navigate the losses and find your center again.
I also have a deep affinity for and understanding of the psyches of actors, artists, HSPs and empaths. Your sensitivity is your strength and your gift, yet challenging to embody in an intense world. The answers and resources are within you… it’s not your fault that you’ve learned the opposite.

Self Esteem Therapists
When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
