This can look like renegotiating your relationship with substance use, exploring relationship stress, learning about boundaries, managing the demands of care-giving, coping with chronic pain and illness, grieving a loss or some combination of all of the above.
I approach psychotherapy as a collaboration. As I see it, our goal is to work together to help you become your own best ally in achieving your goals.

I have a particular expertise in recovery from grief and loss, working at the client's pace to process complex emotions and to promote a sense of healing.
I invite clients into a supportive atmosphere where they can share and explore their different emotions, experience empathy, and being fully heard. Clients will develop skills to better manage their upsets, fears, or relational challenges, both past and present. From a mindful perspective, I challenge clients to create a ‘half-full' mindset, to gradually move beyond emotional reactivity or overwhelm. Regardless of the challenge, clients will learn to see the opportunities in life, rather than falling victim to upsets, and will gradually move into a new way of being - one with a renewed sense of possibility, peace, and freedom.

I specialize in helping people overcome complex and “difficult-to-treat” problems. Clients often come to therapy feeling "stuck" and wanting more freedom in their choices. I work with clients to help identify and bring light to the strategies that we often use to avoid our feelings and keep us locked in patterns we want to shift.

Clients work with me to find the person hidden behind the protective walls they have built up to feel safe. They need, and want, to feel close to family and friends again but are scared it might not work out in their favor. Their goals are often to love themselves, speak up for themselves, and know they are capable no matter how hard life may be in this season. My clients want to let the past be the past and have their future go the way they've envisioned for so long. I enjoy working across the lifespan with anyone ready to improve issues with anxiety, depression, focus, or self-worth.

Ideal client: families with adult children, couples, individuals seeking support with relationships or life transitions; folks considering gender transition interventions who desire to make informed decisions. I want to share something important about who I am. I live with cerebral palsy, and that experience has deeply shaped my perspective, resilience, and the way I show up in the world. It has strengthened my empathy, sharpened my determination, and fueled the passion I bring to my work every day. I also believe that humor is an essential part of healing and connection—so if you appreciate a genuine laugh along the way, we’ll likely work well together.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
