Clients come to me looking for a therapist who specializes in sex and communication and who is knowledgable in working with the polyam/open, kink/BDSM, and LGBTQIA+ communities, because therapy should be a place where you feel understood and supported.
You've been experiencing sexual issues recently or maybe even for some time. You may be experiencing erectile difficulties or pain during sex. You’ve tried everything you’ve found on the internet but still, it's not working the way you want. It's frustrating, isolating, infuriating, and confusing. It may even be difficult to remember a time when things didn’t feel this way. But now, you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to break the pattern and have your body and brain on the same page. You're ready for a more fulfilled sex life. And most of all, you’re ready to feel more connected in your sexuality!

I provide an affirming, non-judgmental space that is LGBTQIA+ inclusive, sex- and kink-positive, and welcoming of diverse relationship styles.
The couples I work with are often feeling disconnected and seeking ways to be closer emotionally and physically. Other couples I work with are feeling connected but are looking to transform their relationship style to a non-monogamous style. Many couples find themselves struggling with communication, mismatched desires, or navigating boundaries within their relationship, and even moreso when exploring non-monogamy or polyamory. You’re facing something complex that deserves care and support. We’ll work together to reduce tension, build trust, and find ways of connecting that honor both your individuality and your partnership

Are you overwhelmed by the demands of adult life: a demanding career, complex relationships, the weight of parenting, the pressure of your own high expectations? Maybe you're navigating a major shift like becoming a parent and finding it's stirred up more than you expected: anxiety, self-doubt, grief for who you used to be. You might feel stuck, or like you're holding it together for everyone but yourself. I want to help you make sense of it all, however tender or complicated it feels. Therapy can be hard, but it should also be a warm, steady place to bring all parts of yourself and find clarity.

People come to therapy for many different reasons: To deal with a specific problem or concern; to develop better ways of coping with life's stresses; to overcome old obstacles; to heal from loss; to become happier, stronger and more resilient. Numerous studies have shown that one of the most important factors in helping people in therapy achieve change is a strong and trusting relationship with their therapist. I am committed to creating a warm and supportive environment in which my clients can explore their challenges, learn new skills, and find and use the innate strengths that they possess.

I strive to live by Irvin Yalom’s counsel to “create a new therapy for each patient.” From a theoretical foundation of attachment, neuroscience and evolutionary psychology, and with an eye to the client's unique environment, circumstances, strengths and lived experiences, I collaborate with clients to understand and map a course of treatment. I utilize the frameworks of psychodynamic theory, narrative therapy, IFS, EFT, mindfulness, and existential psychology throughout the course of therapy as relevant. My orientation to therapy is predicated on the therapeutic relationship and the development of an authentic and caring connection

Sex-Positive, Kink Allied Therapists
Why might an individual want to see a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist?
A sex-positive or kinky individual may want to see a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist because the client may feel safer and more supported discussing their experiences and challenges. A therapist who identifies as kink-friendly will have experience with clients having diverse sexual preferences and will likely be nonjudgmental and supportive about issues brought to the table. It is important to note that sex-positive, kink-allied individuals may find equal success with therapists who do not have such specialized knowledge and background. The most important factor in the success of therapy is for the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond.

Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in sex-positive, kink-allied treatment?
Generally, no. There are limited training programs and unofficial accreditations that therapists can pursue, but a therapist’s expertise will ultimately come from their previous experience with similar clients, their engagement with organizations that promote sex positivity or kink-allied lifestyles, and the importance they place on safety and cultural sensitivity.

How can individuals recognize a good sex-positive, kink-allied therapist?
An experienced therapist is able to help clients explore their sexual identity and expression and relieve any discomfort or stigma attached to discussing such matters and the client’s overall challenges. A therapist who is sex-positive and kink-allied is able to create an environment that honors a client’s experience and sexual preferences. To recognize a good therapist, clients can simply ask directly about topics and issues important to them and gauge their comfort level and connection with a clinician based on the responses.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist with a focus on sex positivity and alternative sexual lifestyles?
Some individuals may feel most comfortable knowing that the clinician they’re working with has a commitment to creating an atmosphere of sex positivity and has experience with relationship diversity and alternative relationship structures. Working with a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist may help clients respect their own challenges and improve identity-affirming treatment.
