I teach you CBT and DBT skills to cope with the things you can't change so you can stop suffering and free yourself to create your best life.
I can help you get to the root of overthinking, doubting yourself, anxiety, sadness, and being stuck repeating the same past issues and patterns and transform it so you can finally get past it and move forward. Or if you're in a transition or going through a tough time and not sure what to do or how to cope, I can help you learn how to change what you have influence over and cope with what you don't so you can get unstuck, feel better, confident, and live the life you want.

My primary ways to start clients is with cognitive reframing, to see how sometimes your own thoughts take you down, and Dialectical Behaviors Therapy ( DBT) skills, to learn to set boundaries and self-advocate.
If you struggle to balance looking after them and looking after yourself…
Are you in transition, struggling with loss - partner loss, job loss, an ‘empty nest’? Lets talk about how that turn-around from powerlessness really CAN happen. I'm a little unconventional in my ways but I promise that you will leave your very first session with something in hand if you are as engaged as I am. Lets navigate together with hope. Email me and lets find a time to chat about it.

My style is warm and non-judgmental, my approach is flexible, individually tailored, and informed by psychodynamic theories, Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDRia and Somatic Experiencing.
There are many reasons to come to therapy. I specialize in issues with mood and trauma. Issues with mood can result in feelings of anxiety, depression, low mood or mood swings. There are different ways that this can play out in life. You may be trying to manage deep painful emotions, outbursts of anger, feelings of emptiness, low motivation, lethargy or restless energy. Mood issues may result in difficulty making decisions, issues relating to others, feeling dependent on others, having difficulty saying no or asking for help, perfectionism, rigidity or black and white thinking. I work with issues relating to high intellect as well.

Accepting new clients. I specialize in helping people navigate life transitions—loss of a loved one, empty nest, divorce, career change, or figuring out what's next for a new stage of life. I particularly enjoy working with people in creative lines of work. I also help people who have symptoms of grief and depression (which can sometimes accompany a new life stage). As a therapist, life & career coach, writer and yoga teacher, I draw from a range of experiences and techniques to match the needs of each client.

For over 35 years, as both a fertility psychologist and OB/GYN with a strong interest in infertility, I have loved helping people on their fertility journey. Are you on a fertility journey? Have you experienced obstacles along the way? Perhaps nothing is as disempowering as struggling with fertility. For many of us, issues with fertility mark the first time that we've wanted our bodies to do something that they seem not capable of doing. Challenges with fertility are traumatic experiences. Is it any wonder why we may be struggling?

My experience is in treating depressive and anxiety disorders including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, OCD, and PTSD. I also particularly enjoy working with young adults and adults experiencing more complex and severe forms of mental illness (including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other forms of psychosis ). Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a collaborative process in which we’ll work together to identify what you hope to address and create a strategy to achieve your goals. Often it can be helpful to better understand the complex pattern of interactions between your thoughts, emotions and behaviors.

Using evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I specialize in helping people with anxiety and related problems, including depression, stress, trauma, cancer survivorship, adult ADHD, chronic pain, insomnia, and behavioral medicine. If any of these are interfering with your efforts to achieve healthy goals, maximize your growth potential, and lead a happy, productive life, we could work together to help you identify the psychological and situational factors that are blocking you and teach you the necessary skills to more effectively manage or eliminate those factors. CBT is a very effective way to help you do this.

Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
