In my 45 years of experience as a licensed therapist working with individuals and couples, I've learned that we all want understanding, respect, and love. We want fulfillment, meaning, and happiness - individually, and in our relationships. Psychotherapy can help us develop the insights and skills we need to understand, respect, and love ourselves and others. We can change worn out, old habits, build resilience, and become more of who we long to be.

For over a decade, I’ve worked with individuals in some form of transition or major life change, often with trauma histories not too far below the surface. In each situation, I’ve found the most transformational interactions to be those rooted in both insight and somatic practices so it is a gift to craft a professional life at that precise intersection. Guided by genuine care and warmth, I support clients in gently attuning to the “data” stored in their body as a springboard to better understand, and compassionately respond to, core needs of safety, ease, worth, and authentic connection (with both self and others).

I support adults feeling overwhelmed by the stress of day to day life, particularly through moments when it feels insurmountable. Everyone deserves space to process all they’re going through and I offer one where you can feel supported and heard, free from judgment. I work with individuals facing a range of challenges including anxiety, life transitions, managing challenging family relationships, and developing healthy boundaries, to name a few. We work together to uncover patterns and behaviors that leave you feeling stuck and find the moments when unkind thoughts and beliefs have taken the place of self-compassion.

Dr. Gregory Wilson offers affordable counseling for individuals, families, couples, and children. He has thirty years' experience, including working with codependency, anxiety and depression, and intimacy and communication issues. The focus is based on this question,” What needs to change to get you going where you want to go?, and what is gong on that the change has yet to happen? “The more the drive toward life is thwarted, the stronger is the drive toward destruction; the more life is realized, the less is the strength of destructiveness. Destructiveness is the outcome of unlived life.”

Life can feel overwhelming when anxiety or depression begin to take up too much space—whether you’re navigating a major life transition, caring for others, or simply trying to hold onto a sense of yourself. For many adults, this can look like constant worry, sadness that’s hard to explain, exhaustion, fear, or feeling disconnected from who you once were. If you’re in the perinatal or parenting season, these challenges can feel even more intense as your body, identity, and responsibilities shift. Finding space to say the hard things out loud isn’t always easy, but you don’t have to carry it alone. I’m really glad you’re here.

Do you find yourself feeling unstable or broken, no matter what you do? You've tried toughing it out, burying your feelings, taking medications, going to therapy. None of it has been enough, and you're afraid you'll never feel better. You're tired of getting triggered, living through the same ups and downs over and over again, and feeling bad about yourself all the time. No one seems to understand, and you don't want to keep explaining everything. I want you to know that your life can be better; your life can be good. You don't have to keep suffering.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
