I am a clinical social worker continuing my work with youth through private practice after 13 years as a middle school social worker. I specialize in the exploration of self (specifically in gender and sexuality), creation of autonomy, and identification and achievement of goals. I believe deeply in the healing power of connection and, especially for adolescents, in the magnitude of feeling seen and heard. I come to my therapeutic practice with a relational and solution-focused lens. I believe that every child has within themself everything they need to be successful and to feel good; it is my job to help them find it.

I am a rostered, prelicensed clinical social worker, and I want to put my skills and experience to use for anyone who is grappling with transition, grief, trauma, depression, anxiety, no matter how near or far they are from home. I have years of experience with intercultural communication and adaptation through my studies, therapy work, my time as an English as a Second Language Teacher, and my own personal experiences as a stranger in strange lands. I want to continue serving refugees and immigrants as they build a new life in green Vermont.

I believe that all people have the potential to be happy in their lives, regardless of what they have suffered. In therapy we develop self-awareness to clarify what is truly important to the person's life and whether they are living their life in accord with those values. Happiness also includes learning to have the right relation to negativity - to "compost" difficult emotions and situations to transform them into strength and resilence. I help the client use mindfulness/meditation practices to help encourage gratitude, which in turn dispels self-critical thinking that leads to depression and anxiety.

Motherhood is a transformative experience that is often beautiful, overwhelming, lonely, and exhausting all at once. If you're a new mom who's feeling anxious, sad, or like you're barely holding it together, you are not alone. Perhaps your birth or postpartum experience didn’t go as planned, or you’re grieving a loss that still feels heavy. You miss feeling like you, and you’re not sure how to find her again. I work with mothers navigating the emotional ups and downs of pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood. Together, we’ll slow down, create space for your needs, and help you connect to this new version of yourself.

I do reality based, solution focused therapy influenced by existentialism and mindfulness based practices. I believe therapy and change is ultimately about questioning, constructing and understanding meaning in one's experience and exploring that in a phenomenological context. I operate from an assumption of assets versus an assumption of deficits as a counselor. I specialize in anxiety and depression, trauma, identity issues, life transitions, couples and relationships.

I find that that the ideal patient is someone who wants to make their quality of life better. No two people are the same, and the variety of mental and emotional difficulty that people deal with is vast. In psycho-dynamic psychotherapy we talk about our problems to help clients can face their struggles and make improvements. There is not a one-size-fits-all solution. It is the thorough pursuit of the truth and its remedies.

As a young girl is Pittsburgh, I saw people around me being unhappy, confused, not knowing what to do. I wanted to understand why they got themselves in trouble, and why they were troubled. I was curious, and sad. Over the years I learned what those unhappy people could have done. My education began as a teacher of young children. Then I became a caseworker helping people with parenting, adoptions, and the miseries of poverty. Finally, I trained to be a therapist, and treated troubled teenagers, adults with illness, and the old and dying.

I work with individuals who are seeking to better understand themselves and create meaningful change in their lives. Together, we’ll explore emotional experiences, thought patterns, and relationship dynamics with curiosity and care. My approach is aimed at helping you live with greater clarity, ease, and connection. I believe that real healing and growth come from a willingness to look inward- and that this process, while not always easy, can lead to genuine relief and lasting change.

In my experience, individuals reach out for therapy because their present circumstance is difficult and they would like their present and future to be better or different. I use a person centered approach to help individuals gain greater awareness into their patterns and beliefs with the goal of creating a life grounded in wholeness, self compassion and self understanding. I have a depth of knowledge in trauma symptomatology, treatment and healing gleaned from years working with survivors of childhood and adult abuse. I also have experience with young adults pursuing educational/life goals and coping with these challenges.

Life is challenging, and I believe humans were never meant to face life's challenges alone. I work with clients who are open to exploring how childhood experiences, relationships, trauma, and deeply rooted beliefs shape their inner world. Many are navigating anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance, relationship concerns, identity exploration, or major life transitions. I have over 7 years of experience working with adult survivors of domestic and sexual violence. I offer a compassionate, nonjudgmental space to explore patterns and emotions. I also enjoy with young adults and individuals who feel “stuck” despite wanting change.

Psychoanalysis and analytic psychotherapy are relationship-based treatment models. Reasons for seeking treatment, such as depression and anxiety, are unique to each individual, as are relationships, thoughts, feelings, and perceptions. Discovering for yourself what constitutes a good therapeutic relationship develops over time through experience and insight. There is no replacement for personal experience where mental health is concerned. In the words of Wilfred Bion, "You are the most important person you are ever likely to meet. Therefore, it is of no small importance that you get on well with this important person."

Change is possible. If we believe the research, therapy works regardless of the modal of therapy. Some of my clients value mind-body techniques, including Trauma Releasing Exercises®, Chinese Medicine, EMDR, and Emmett Techniques, to help change happen. Sometimes the most challenging part is starting.
