As a relational / psychodynamic therapist I believe that the path toward healing flows through deep exploration of relationships - past, present, and right here in this room.
I named my practice "Confluence Psychotherapy" because a confluence is the point when two rivers meet - a point when together what has been separate becomes fuller, deeper, more powerful together. Like a moment when you lose yourself in dance or play, the right connection can help us to find what we need in unexpected and surprising ways. Good therapy can be like that - at times difficult but in the end, exhilarating. I specialize in working through trauma of all forms with older teens and adults of all ages and from a variety of backgrounds.

I invite clients into a supportive atmosphere where they can share and explore their different emotions, experience empathy, and being fully heard. Clients will develop skills to better manage their upsets, fears, or relational challenges, both past and present. From a mindful perspective, I challenge clients to create a ‘half-full' mindset, to gradually move beyond emotional reactivity or overwhelm. Regardless of the challenge, clients will learn to see the opportunities in life, rather than falling victim to upsets, and will gradually move into a new way of being - one with a renewed sense of possibility, peace, and freedom.

" The purpose of aging is to grow into your soul, the one you have been carrying all along, the one you had as a child." From: The Time of the Child by Niall Williams. I help adults struggling with anxiety and overwhelm find more peace, confidence, and a renewed sense of self. I have many years of counseling experience and have a deep appreciation for the challenges associated with healing from emotional patterns that, over time, are no longer useful. I respect the importance of setting clear boundaries to support a healthy therapeutic alliance. Confidentiality is the heart of a relationship built on trust.

I am a clinical psychologist with experience with a broad range of clinical concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, and relationship problems.  I believe that we are all doing our best to cope with the challenges in our life, but sometimes we can benefit from some help.  Therapy is an effective tool for dealing with difficult emotions, and for making significant changes in yourself and your life.  It is a great pleasure and a meaningful privilege to earn the trust of a client and to help them move toward healing, growth, and a better life.

My ideal client is at a crossroads. They are high functioning but burdened by stress, grief, or identity confusion. They seek more than symptom relief; they long for purpose, integration, and a greater sense of authenticity. Often navigating trauma, a lack of supportive relationships, or nagging existential questions, they need a therapist who holds both a diverse clinical skillset and a deep respect for his clients. Client goals often include minimizing depression or anxiety symptoms, but each individual is unique. Ultimately, clients desire to feel empowered to grow into the best version of themselves. I can help with that.

I work with individuals navigating intense emotions, relationship challenges, and patterns that feel hard to shift. Many come in feeling overwhelmed, reactive, or stuck. Together, we slow things down to understand what’s happening beneath the surface and build steadiness, clarity, and more effective ways of relating.

Whether you are fearful of horses or ride every day, Equine Assisted Therapy techniques are designed to move at your pace and find value at a distance or in the middle of the herd. I will assess your mental health goals and experience with horses, and collaboratively, we’ll develop our therapy plan. No experience with horses is necessary because this is a therapy where humans and horses build relationships without riding. All sessions are unmounted (groundwork).

After over 25 years in private practice (see www.JeanPollock.com ) I currently work with adult individuals using a fairly integrative approach. Of particular expertise are depression, anxiety, & childhood trauma and its manifestations in the body. More important than the particular issue, however, is my belief that times of stress in our lives -and even times that might seem particularly hopeless- can serve as opportunities for increased understanding and growth. Psychotherapy with a "seasoned" clinician can be a fascinating and effective tool to facilitate that transformation and growth.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
