As an LGBTQIA empath, intuitive, or artist, you experience this world in a deeper, more complex, intuitive way - including painful experiences of trauma. With so much pain in the world, it's hard to care for your own feelings and needs, let alone heal from your experiences of trauma. I specialize in supporting LGBTQIA empaths, artists, and magic makers to heal from the trauma of oppression, abuse, and sexual violence and reclaim their power. To embrace their own sacred needs and gifts. And to connect with the power of QT ancestors and community, ecospirituality, creativity, joy, and nourished aliveness and activism.

A person's strength and uniqueness are their best assets and are the foundation for their success. Each person is individual with their response to potentially traumatic event(s) and need an equally individual way of processing and overcoming the barriers that come from experiencing trauma. Each person must be given the attention, respect, and time to work through any traumatic event, which is much more successful when you have someone there to process this trauma with you. What you can expect from sitting in a therapy room with me is mutual respect, understanding that trauma is diverse, and patience since healing work takes time.

Does a basic discussion turn into an all day argument? Do you feel like you are in a relationship with a stranger? Relationships, regardless of what kind, are the responsibility of both parties involved. Each relationship has its own fingerprints and no two are the same. I help couples identify and resolve the underlying cause of their conflict whether it’s current or historic.

Therapy works best when it’s a partnership: you and I work together to address your goals, challenges, and hopes for the future. While I bring professional experience and a strong grounding in evidence-based treatment, you are the expert on your own life.
My approach is compassionate, patient, and deeply curious, but also honest and “no BS.” I specialize in working with adults navigating avoidant behaviors: PTSD, phobias, anxiety, and OCD. My practice draws from proven modalities including Prolonged Exposure (PE), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).

As a therapist, my approach is grounded in blending Internal Family Systems (IFS) understandings (includes psychodynamic and mindfulness practices) and somatic psychotherapy to increase aliveness, build meta-cognitive self-understanding, and promote self-regulation. This approach works with the whole person by addressing internal conflicts and outer expression cognitively, emotionally and physically. Clients can gain greater awareness of old patterns of action and reaction that supports their possibility and capacity to have choice-points and response.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
