I support adults feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges, both past and present, particularly through moments when it feels insurmountable. Everyone deserves space to process all they’re going through and I offer one where you can feel supported and heard, free from judgment. I work with individuals facing a range of challenges including traumatic experiences, life transitions, managing difficult family relationships, and building healthy boundaries, to name a few. We work together to uncover patterns and behaviors leaving you feeling stuck and find moments when unkind thoughts and beliefs have taken the place of self-compassion.

Openings for video, phone, in-person sessions.
I welcome adults from diverse backgrounds, cultures, experiences, identities & belief systems. I am skilled at supporting people who have been overwhelmed and struggle with “trauma" - unresolved shock & survival responses (dissociation, fight, flight, appease & shut down). These natural defensives are essential for dealing with threat. Protective impulses from the past can get stuck & intrude on relationships & on physical, emotional & spiritual rhythms of day-to-day life. I support you to feel safe & allow incomplete orienting & survival responses to move slowly & integrate fully. I work online & in Greenfield, MA.

Children are often puzzling, but when they behave in unexpected ways they are telling us something important. Students who are struggling in school need a system of support to help them succeed. When families, schools, and medical practitioners all work together, the 'picture' starts to emerge. My experience as a family therapist and a school counselor gives me insight into what they are trying to tell us and how their systems can work together to support them. My studies in School Psychology help me to assess issues and write positive behavior support plans.

Do you find yourself caught in the same patterns, reactions, or challenges, no matter how much you understand them? You may have done a great deal of inner work, maybe even years of therapy, and still struggle with familiar patterns. Despite your self-awareness and intentions, something isn’t shifting in the moments that matter most. You may feel frustrated, overwhelmed, or like something is wrong. You’re ready to feel less reactive, more grounded, and to experience greater ease in your body. You’re ready to address the roots of these patterns in a way that supports meaningful, lasting resolution. I want to help you get there.

I think the connection between a therapist and client is the most important aspect of the counseling work. When a good relationship is established you can reach your goals and challenge yourself in an environment that feels safe. I enjoy working with children, teens, and families in a variety of ways. I also enjoy supporting parents with the many challenges of raising children in todays society. My theoretical approach is supported by Internal Family Systems theory where we will work with parts of self to help understand, and support a healthier version of ourselves.

People come to therapy for many different reasons: To deal with a specific problem or concern; to develop better ways of coping with life's stresses; to overcome old obstacles; to heal from loss; to become happier, stronger and more resilient. Numerous studies have shown that one of the most important factors in helping people in therapy achieve change is a strong and trusting relationship with their therapist. I am committed to creating a warm and supportive environment in which my clients can explore their challenges, learn new skills, and find and use the innate strengths that they possess.

The goal of therapy is to help people rediscover their strengths and talents, often blocked or underdeveloped, so they can be happier and more fulfilled. Since 1987, my counseling practice has specialized in enhancing creativity and helping people overcome addictions. I work with professional artists seeking support on their path and with all people who have a desire to explore personal creativity in their lives. Through compassionate listening and a focus on connecting mind and body, I encourage people to develop a greater awareness of the present moment, their body's signals, thoughts, feelings and the needs that arise.

Sometimes you know something in your life isn’t working, but you’re not quite sure how to change it. Maybe you’re overwhelmed, stuck in the same relationship patterns, struggling with anxiety, or realizing that experiences from your past are still showing up in your life today. I believe our patterns often make sense when we understand where they came from. Together, we can get curious about what’s underneath the anxiety, reactions, or behaviors that are keeping you stuck, while also building practical tools to help you move forward. You don’t have to have everything

I am accepting new clients. If you're not doing, thinking or feeling your best- than you owe it to yourself to do something about it. A counselor can be useful to you by helping you figure out what you want to do. Whether you want to learn to communicate better, improve your self-esteem, perform better academically, socially, athletically or if you want to free yourself from an addiction or from feelings of anxiety/depression/grief, or if you want to improve your relationships- counseling can be very useful. In terms of style, I'm a "regular, easy going guy" who will listen.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
