Embrace change through somatic (body focused) modalities including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Somatic Experiencing (TM), parts work, yogic concepts, deep inquiry and deep listening. Adjunct therapy offered for specific issues if you are already working regularly with another therapist. For some people short term EMDR therapy can be highly effective, and for others the process may take longer. Together, we will chart a course that addresses your complexity and goals. I am also an experienced yoga teacher/practitioner and support individual practice and traditional awareness approaches.

I like to work with people who are wanting to work on decreasing their anxiety, wherever this comes from including past trauma, OCD, or present life circumstances. I have worked with military members in the past, and have always liked working with them and other adults. I find that people like to look at their attachment styles and see how this affects their present relationships, of all kinds.

In our journeys through life we experience both pleasurable and distressing events. When these events reach a level of trauma and are not processed or effectively integrated, individuals may rely on less adaptive strategies to manage discomfort, stress and change. These strategies can negatively influence the way we perceive and interact with the world and affect our intuitive nature and our intentionality for seeking meaning and experiencing joy. My practice is informed by a deeply attuned and heartfelt approach to my client’s emotional wellbeing. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, individuals, couples and families.

Everyone has the capacity to grow and to heal. It's easy to get stuck in patterns that no longer serve us, limit our perspective and perpetuate suffering. I'd like to help you explore what you need to gain resilience, to discover joy. I'm a good active listener with a big heart. My art background and compassion practice inform all I do. In therapy, we'll look at the larger picture together: notice the patterns and the narratives you've created about them, the self-judgments, the emotions that can (but don't need to) run the show, the places you feel stuck. My practice is client-centered. I honor you and your self-expertise.

Feeling stuck? Struggling to set a boundary? Goals, successes, and happiness are often guided and, occasionally hindered, by the situations we find ourselves in. Traumatic events, interpersonal struggles, and difficult environments can make it challenging to walk our own path and to reach our potential. In these times of hardship it is important to find direction and to develop safety and a strong sense of self. It is with this strength we can make plans for positive changes in the future.

As a somatic, mindfulness, and nature-based mental health counselor, I work with individual adults in identifying and affirming gifts and strengths; finding and maintaining calm, connection, and contentment; and creating new patterns that encourage health, growth, and resilience through life’s changes. A session with me might include movement exploration (informed by dance/movement therapy, ecosomatics, and yoga), awareness and compassion building exercises (mindfulness and meditation), and therapeutic conversation.

I have been in private practice in Hardwick, VT since 2003. I use a psychodynamic approach. Psychodynamic therapy views the therapeutic relationship as a mirror of patients' difficulties in relation to others and, on a deeper level, of patients' earlier relations to their parents. This type of therapy is valuable for anyone but especially for people who are curious, who have the capacity for insight, and who are passionate for self-development. Common presenting issues are depression, anxiety, family of origin conflict, relationship problems (for example, divorce, separation), history of abuse/neglect, and obsessive and/or compulsive behaviors.

I believe losing touch with our life purpose can lead to depression, anxiety, mood imbalances, and disconnection to Self. By utilizing talk therapy, goals and embracing the here and now, we have opportunities to reach for and reconnect with healing spirit, opening a portal in which one resolves the obstacles holding us back; This journey facilitates access to a path of self discovery of the deeper meaning and gifts we hold in life. Like an onion, peeling away limiting layers of self-beliefs and the attending reactivity to those beliefs, one can foster deeper awareness of life experience, and a renewal of our sense of purpose.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
