In our journeys through life we experience both pleasurable and distressing events. When these events reach a level of trauma and are not processed or effectively integrated, individuals may rely on less adaptive strategies to manage discomfort, stress and change. These strategies can negatively influence the way we perceive and interact with the world and affect our intuitive nature and our intentionality for seeking meaning and experiencing joy. My practice is informed by a deeply attuned and heartfelt approach to my client’s emotional wellbeing. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, individuals, couples and families.

Everyone has the capacity to grow and to heal. It's easy to get stuck in patterns that no longer serve us, limit our perspective and perpetuate suffering. I'd like to help you explore what you need to gain resilience, to discover joy. I'm a good active listener with a big heart. My art background and compassion practice inform all I do. In therapy, we'll look at the larger picture together: notice the patterns and the narratives you've created about them, the self-judgments, the emotions that can (but don't need to) run the show, the places you feel stuck. My practice is client-centered. I honor you and your self-expertise.

Life just isn't what you thought it would be. You sometimes wonder if your relationships bring you more pain than they do joy. It's hard to show others the real you, which leaves you feeling unseen, alone, and uncared for. Maybe you find yourself repeating patterns that sabotage your wellbeing. Does this sound familiar? If so, I would love to meet you! I pride myself on working with couples and individuals who, tired of living beneath their potential, are truly ready to face their struggles, move through the pain that's holding them back, and access the authentic love, connection and confidence they’ve been searching for.

I use an integrated approach so it is tailored to you, I lean on ACT, DBT, and Compassion Focused often.
Life is full of emotions, sometimes its joy but sometimes its a sense of struggling and pain. Anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, and relationship/marital problems can all add to this sense of struggling. Especially, when we aren't well equipped to withstand it. Sometimes that struggle feels like this heavy cloud or mask we walk around with. Sometimes that struggle isolates us and causes us to become disconnected from ourselves or our loved ones. Playing tug of war with that struggle only makes it more draining. Let's figure out a way to make that struggle less intense together.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
