As you will discover on my website (www.dpetrocelli.org), my primary and most extensive experience over the past 20 years has been working intensively with the adolescent population (and young adults/college-age, young professionals, etc).
Accepting new clients! Over the past 20+ years I have accumulated a very unique and in-depth knowledge and experience into what it takes to create positive change in our lives. There is no set way that works for everyone, and improvement is more likely when there is a willingness to engage in a process, to consider other perspectives alongside of our own, and to courageously seek assistance, all cornerstones to positive change. Ultimately, what we think can help lead us to what we become. For more specific detail please visit my website at www.dpetrocelli.org to learn more about my experience and the services I provide.

As a child and family therapist I support all kinds of families (Queer, blended, single parent, polycules, co-parents, parent-young child, and parent- teen) to find ease, harmony, and strong attachment with one another.
Update 4/4/25- 3PM opening in Burlington on Mondays for private pay client: I work with children, teens, families, and adults who are ready to heal from trauma and build healthy relationships. As a Queer therapist, I support marginalized people to build self-worth and live with a greater sense of wellbeing amidst systems that undermine our inherent value. Working with me is like having a guide for you, your child, and partner(s) in building more loving and liberating relationships with yourself and others. With adults and children alike, I utilize a modality called Brainspotting to heal trauma.

Child & adolescent brains are different from adult brains, ergo, we treat them differently.
I work with clients who are dealing with a range of difficulties. Through the use of CBT and DBT techniques, we can dive deep into past traumas & begin your long waiting healing journey, or work through a current life struggle. I also find that some clients simply need an unbiased source to talk through their day-to-day functioning with. If you have a goal that you want to achieve, big or small, we can collaborate to figure out what works best for you. I value a person-centered approach, in which the client is treated as a partner in the process and expert in their own lives, and I provide positive regard, empathy, and support.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
