It is essentially human to seek physical safety, to belong to and be understood by others of our kind, and to know that we can control our lives and make a difference in our world. If you are struggling with emotional control, unwanted behavior, and difficulty with thinking and motivation, life can be especially hard.

The aftermath of trauma can feel both daunting and undefined. You may feel like you don’t know yourself anymore. The idea of who you are becoming may bring even more uncertainty. You may notice that your relationships are falling apart, causing you to feel isolated, yet still yearning for connection. I’m dedicated to providing you with a safe and non-judgmental space where you can start to make sense of it all. Slowly, you’ll learn to feel and identify emotions which will enable you to process your past. Eventually, your nervous system may find equilibrium again. Gradually, your body can learn to let go.

You want to feel confident and in control of who you are, but deep down you are struggling with the pressure to have it all together. You never feel good enough. You're tired and frustrated, you overthink and constantly second-guess yourself. It might be hard to remember a time when things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You're ready to feel safe and connected in your relationships. You're ready to feel fulfilled in your work, creativity, and passions. Most of all, you're ready to love yourself fully and experience hope.

The surest way to reach me is by email not voicemail. I don't have a staff answering and making phone calls for me. You can also use my online portal to request, schedule, reschedule, or cancel your appointment. I use an integrative approach to therapy that addresses symptoms and behaviors, thoughts, sensations, and beliefs. People's experiences and problems are influenced by many factors; genetics, biology, psychology, society, community, family, relationships, education, occupation, religion, and culture. I work with clients to help them reach the goals we develop together as partners on their journey of growth and transformation.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
