This inevitably raised my awareness of the importance of the family and related support systems.
I completed advanced training in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy the model developed by Daniel Hughes to support the needs of children and adolescents with attachment deficits. As of 2020, I am also trained in the use of EMDR and I now regularly use this in my counseling practice.

I am fond of a playful parenting approach that combines a good sense of boundaries and limits and also the ability to enjoy the journey of being human together in a family that in and of itself is an adventure.
My motto is: "Life is an Adventure". I have worked in the Mental Health field across many settings and with all age groups. As the years pass and my experience deepens, I find that my approach is leaning more and more towards Positive Psychology. While I am skilled and knowledgeable about how to help solve problems, work through issues and reduce symptoms, I also feel that it is my job to help people to access the strengths and assets that they already have or can develop to help them towards healing. I am currently certified as an EMDR Practitioner.

If you have known trauma, loss, abuse, or bullying, this can have a profound impact on how you see yourself and connect with friends, partners, and family.
I use a combination of Emotion-focused and Narrative therapies to help you to explore the root of where negative core beliefs come from. We challenge those beliefs, embrace the feelings that are most helpful, and create a plan to become the realized best version of yourself: unburdened by guilt, shame, fear, and anger.

My practice is grounded in internal family systems, sensorimotor methods, narrative therapy techniques, mindfulness practices and guided self-reflection to assist clients in a holistic healing process.
In our journeys through life we experience both pleasurable and distressing events. When these events reach a level of trauma and are not processed or effectively integrated, individuals may rely on less adaptive strategies to manage discomfort, stress and change. These strategies can negatively influence the way we perceive and interact with the world and affect our intuitive nature and our intentionality for seeking meaning and experiencing joy. My practice is informed by a deeply attuned and heartfelt approach to my client’s emotional wellbeing. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, individuals, couples and families.

I have extensive experience in this field and have an eclectic approach to therapy as I incorporate Internal Family Systems, Attachment, and Psychodynamic theories in my work, along with Dialectical & Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, Mind-Body connections, and Positive Psychology.
Why am I struggling so bad? Its been long enough and I should be okay now, right? I want to move on and feel stuck. I don't have anyone who wants to hear my story and help me make sense if it. Being able to tell our stories can be cathartic and liberating and I want to offer space so you can be heard and seen. I believe that making meaning of our experiences can be powerful and I offer guidance, skills, education and practice that nurtures learning new ways of coping & managing stress. I want to support processing what's surfacing so you can begin to flourish.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
