I support many youth transitioning into adulthood, those facing trauma, and neurological issues such as PTSD, ADHD & ASD.
I couch myself as a Humanistic Behavioralist: Knowing the positive relationship is the foundation to promoting change as we plan new thoughts and behaviors into the future. I do this directly, but also metaphorically or symbolically within an interactive / play modal. I work well with most youth, high functioning ASD and developmentally delayed clients.

We will disconnect from technology and immerse ourselves into the trees, in order to rejuvenate our inner self. Taking the first step can be scary, so come challenge yourself outside your comfort zone while thinking about yourself from within.

The aftermath of trauma can feel both daunting and undefined. You may feel like you don’t know yourself anymore. The idea of who you are becoming may bring even more uncertainty. You may notice that your relationships are falling apart, causing you to feel isolated, yet still yearning for connection. I’m dedicated to providing you with a safe and non-judgmental space where you can start to make sense of it all. Slowly, you’ll learn to feel and identify emotions which will enable you to process your past. Eventually, your nervous system may find equilibrium again. Gradually, your body can learn to let go.

There are many reasons why someone might want to seek out counseling; maybe it's the desire to feel less depressed or anxious, to be more connected or understood, or to learn better communication skills in relationship to others. More often than not, the reason a person reaches out to a therapist is because something is out of balance or 'off'. I believe that people have an inherent desire to feel good and that we do the best we can until we learn better ways.

I wish to serve as a guide for my clients on their own journey towards self-discovery. I am practicing humanistic psychology and my primary focus is to create an empathetic, non-judgmental, and safe therapeutic relationship. By using person-centered counseling, I am able to help my clients discover their authentic selves. I wish to help reduce anxiety and aid my clients in developing a positive self-image for themselves. I am interested in learning and understanding my clients’ self-perceptions and view of their own reality. My belief is that our worth is conditioned by others and this often can be detrimental to our mental health.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
