I work with an array of concerns including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression,
obsessive
compulsiveness, reoccurring thought patterns, anger, and body dysmorphia.
I operate under the belief that mental health and wellness exists at the junction of the biological, social and psychological facets of an individual, and that a balance is needed to address the human condition. With this in mind even the most difficult of concerns to address can be a profound force for positive change in someone's life.

Struggling with
OCD
, anxiety, body-focused repetitive behaviors, or mood-related challenges can be scary to navigate on your own and can get in the way of the life you want to live. I work with people to provide specialized treatment and education to learn what's holding you back from a fulfilling and meaningful life. Together in a compassionate and non-judgmental space, we will work to identify how the thoughts and stories you have about yourself and life get in your way, how to make room for human experiences in the present moment, and how to act in the service of your values.

Psychotherapy is very rewarding and challenging work. Anyone seeking to make themselves healthier needs to know that and be open to change. Despite how difficult it is to work through the issues that disrupt our lives, the reward is learning that life is a process worth living and improving on a continuous basis. I treat people with trauma issues, depression, anxiety, PTSD, career moves, family issues,
OCD
, addictive behaviors, relationship problems and interpersonal unhappiness often beginning with providing psycho-educational information such as personal boundaries, basic human rights, safety, and coping and advocacy skills.

If struggling against anxiety, panic disorder, or
OCD
has left you frustrated and exhausted, are you willing to try a radically different approach? Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a proven way to help you change your relationship with anxious thoughts and difficult feelings and live YOUR life, even when anxiety shows up.
Have you ever wondered why we have anxiety? There's a simple answer: because we are alive! Life is hard and anxiety is actually our mind's way of trying to keep us alive and out of danger. But when anxiety feels overwhelming it can take away our freedom to live the life we want to live. You have probably tried many different ways of controlling or reducing anxiety and some of them probably help, at least in the short term. But like an annoying song that gets stuck in our head, the more we try to get rid of anxiety the stronger it often returns.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
