Without our consent, and oftentimes without our knowledge, we are bombarded with negative messages that become woven into our personal story. When the story that's been written for us doesn’t align with how we want to be seen, chronic feelings of shame, anxiety, and hopelessness can surface. My approach to counseling is grounded in narrative and psychodynamic therapy. Through the process of discovering your own unique values, strengths, and resources in a trusting
relationship
with someone who listens to your story with care and genuine curiosity, you will begin to see your innate capacity for growth as you define it.

Sometimes, we find ourselves in repetitive patterns that can betray our deepest wishes for a fulfilling life. Perhaps you have developed ways of coping that were once effective but are less helpful than they were in the past. Natural life transitions themselves, even the joyful ones, can be full of complicated feelings like loss, grief, and resentment. Despite wanting a meaningful
relationship
with others, you may feel inhibited and alone. We can also just feel ‘off’ yet remain unsure why or what could be the cause. Exploring our unconscious minds and residues can illuminate great depths

Are you interested in gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and exploring ideas about your life purpose, career, or
relationship
issues? Do you need help developing strategies to manage stress, or in processing issues of health, grief, conflict, parenting or life transitions? Want to try something new? One on one sessions in intermodal expressive arts; visual art, writing, storytelling, movement, music and/or drama, are transformational. The arts can help you explore your personal development, quiet your mind and be present in the moment. Some clients use this as a compliment, or alternative to, traditional talk therapy.

I believe that life is a process of becoming. Who we are today is not who we were yesterday nor who we will be tomorrow. Sometimes on our journey we feel unsure of ourselves or our destination which is where the counseling process can be helpful. Through our work together, we can explore who you are and what you want, as well as identify and change the mental roadblocks that are interfering with your happiness and success. With patience and insight, you will begin to feel more wholly connected to yourself which will bring you peace and lasting change.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
