I work with adults, older adolescents, and couples, and facilitate groups. I treat depression, anxiety , interpersonal difficulties, family of origin issues, OCD, trauma, and grief/loss. Life is difficult and often painful - much more so for some than for others. This pain brings people to therapy to engage in a process that is itself often painful; and yet they do so willingly and with hope. I am continually inspired by my clients as they engage in this process and come to see themselves in new ways, and make choices that allow them to live more fully.

**Sadly, I'm currently unable to take any new clients, but please check back, as I will update here when I have openings again. ** Hello, and welcome. Have you come here for change, or has change come for you? We seek therapy for many reasons- support, perspective, collaborative help- and our struggles have many names- anxiety , depression, anger, grief, fear, loss, and loneliness. Who have you been, who are you now, and who would you like to be? Where do you fit into this world, and what do you have to offer? What would you say, and how? Bring your questions, theories, fears and frustrations, confusion, curiosity, and courage.

Living a human life is fraught with painful experiences, just by its nature, and not because people are doing anything wrong. Whether that manifests as sadness, loneliness, guilt, shame, boredom, numbness, stagnation, anxiety , or fear, when these feelings show up, they can leave us feeling trapped and powerless in the face of the challenges of life. My goal is to provide a non-judgmental environment in which people can feel free to build awareness of their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, habits, and relationship dynamics. This awareness provides the basis for personal transformation.

I have experience with a diversity of issues including anxiety , depression and relationship concerns. I am a trained depth psychotherapist (Jungian-oriented), and am concerned with addressing symptoms at their root cause. I balance this approach by offering avenues of relief from symptoms in the present. Easing the burden of suffering in the here-and-now allows us to engage more fully with the work of addressing original causes, and thereby contributes to long-term resolution.

Whether you're struggling in your relationship or simply wanting to fine-tune communication, managing individual anxiety , navigating grief, or feeling overwhelmed by challenges, I encourage you to take this step of enlisting the support of someone who is invested in helping you walk your path toward wellbeing.
Suffering is an inherent part of the human condition, but it doesn't mean that we need to move through it alone. Irvin Yalom, an American Existential Psychiatrist, describes the therapist and client as "fellow travelers." This resonates with me, as I believe that a collaborative approach and the steadily cultivated care and trust in the therapeutic relationship can fuel meaningful growth and change on individual and relational levels. Then, by shining the light of curiosity on one's inner landscape, an awareness of relationship themes, habitual behaviors, and thought patterns begins to surface. This awareness is the key to change.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
