My ideal client would be anyone who wants to bring a change to their lives. Someone who feels unfulfilled currently. Someone who has aspirations, dreams, and goals. Someone who struggles with their past. Someone who struggles with relationships, trauma, anxiety, depression, expressing or understanding the depths and origins of their emotions. Someone who feels ready to start both diving deep and climbing mountains. To put it succinctly: If you're looking at this page, rest assured, you matter, and I would love to work with you.

Everyone comes to psychotherapy with a unique set of concerns; thus, every course of psychotherapy is different. Part of my role is learning how I can be helpful to you in particular. In general, I view therapy as a place for increasing self-awareness. Often, we don't fully understand why we go about our lives as we do - and why we have the difficulties that we have. Without adequate self-awareness, we tend to unwittingly repeat the same patterns and suffer accordingly. It is only when we understand ourselves as we truly are that we become free to choose new possibilities.

A person's strength and uniqueness are their best assets and are the foundation for their success. Each person is individual with their response to potentially traumatic event(s) and need an equally individual way of processing and overcoming the barriers that come from experiencing trauma. Each person must be given the attention, respect, and time to work through any traumatic event, which is much more successful when you have someone there to process this trauma with you. What you can expect from sitting in a therapy room with me is mutual respect, understanding that trauma is diverse, and patience since healing work takes time.

I am a Licensed Psychologist Master with over thirty years experience in working with adult survivors of childhood abuse and neglect. I help people navigate the sometimes choppy waters from their past in order to be fully living in the present. I am trained by Pia Melody in Post Induction Therapy for addressing the effects of codependence: low self esteem, impaired boundaries, knowing who you are , and difficulties with self care. Trauma creates addictions creates relational problems.

As an LGBTQIA empath, intuitive, or artist, you experience this world in a deeper, more complex, intuitive way - including painful experiences of trauma. With so much pain in the world, it's hard to care for your own feelings and needs, let alone heal from your experiences of trauma. I specialize in supporting LGBTQIA empaths, artists, and magic makers to heal from the trauma of oppression, abuse, and sexual violence and reclaim their power. To embrace their own sacred needs and gifts. And to connect with the power of QT ancestors and community, ecospirituality, creativity, joy, and nourished aliveness and activism.

Therapy can help you feel more content, improve relationships, and create choices that are more satisfying and realistic. I work with anxiety, panic, depression, grief, insomnia, stress, and self-esteem, as well as cultural adjustment and identity concerns. My approach blends psychoanalysis, CBT, mindfulness, hypnosis, coaching, and meaning-centered psychotherapy. Many of my patients are doing fairly well but want to feel even better—more confident, organized, and connected. I see people navigating transitions, work pressures, and relationships, and those “in between worlds” seeking belonging.

Depression, anxiety, and despair invite us to seek out deeper connections and growth. The intimacy that develops in the therapeutic relationship is different from what passes for communication in most peoples' daily lives. In the I and Thou, of genuine therapy, there is no barrier. The goal is to be able to totally see and to be seen. Pretense, persona, the need to impress, many aspects of false perception all fall away. There are no barriers. It is a way of healing soul sickness that is challenging to both therapist and patient while at the same time being effective and fulfilling.

People don’t usually come to me because they feel anxious or stressed. They come after discovering infidelity, compulsive sexual behavior, or repeated breaches of trust—and their sense of reality has been shaken. I specialize in working with partners experiencing betrayal trauma. Many of my clients feel hypervigilant, consumed by intrusive thoughts, and unsure what’s real. You may be questioning your judgment, your relationship, and yourself, while still trying to hold everything together.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
