Hello to all as you read this, I am Virginia M. Barney, and am a registered nurse, who went on to receive her master's in social work and am now a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have a passion for my work as such do not see it as a job, but as a privilege to be able to meet individuals where my skill set may make a difference in their lives. I previously had a private practice for ten years and then returned to work in the public sector of mental health I have recently retired from working in the public sector and decided to continue working with individuals and families in my own practice.
I most often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, I am certified in DBT and use Structural Family Therapy as well. I find eclectic approaches are often needed. I have most often worked with individuals experiencing depression and anxiety, and children diagnosed with ADHD/ODD. Individuals with relationship issues.
I believe I set a tone of acceptance and one that states we are here to meet you where you are at and accomplish what you wish to do. I was a Community Mental Health Nurse and the Social worker on my team encouraged me to go to graduate school, I have enjoyed the field since.
