As a Temp-Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist I meet people where they are, find their own intention for therapy, & guide them through their interpersonal relationships, thoughts, and feelings. I work from an evidence-based Collaborative/Narrative Strength Based Approach to understand the patient’s perspective and help empower them to understand their mental health through neurophysiological psychoeducation, assessments, and build coping skills for everyday life stressors. I see patients with chronic illness, depression, anxiety, Trauma (PTSD, Complex), relationship distress/conflict. I work with individuals, couples, and families.

You’re exhausted from the unending racing thoughts and constantly feeling on-edge due to anxiety and PTSD. The guilt and shame of negative beliefs about yourself from depression feel overwhelming. You can feel peaceful, confident, grounded, and happy again. I can help you get there through my experiential, trauma-focused therapy. My ideal clients are open to deep exploration of their stories, identities, wounds, and desires and are motivated to make real change. I’m Carlita Harrington a Florida native who’s a master’s level Clinical Mental health counselor with a specialization in Military Families & Culture. I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Communications from Tennessee State University and served in the United States Navy for eight years. I take a Rogerian approach to counseling also known as person centered, which is rooted in “helping people find their own best way”.

I am a licensed therapist in TN, and am certified in EMDR the Safe and Sound Protocol. I specialize in EMDR therapy for adults and kids which can help you live in the present and fully resolve your past. My goldendoodle, Baymax, also joins me for some of my sessions to support clients.

I also work most often with topics such as depression, anxiety, couples' issues, life transitions, teenagers, young adults, family of origin issues, victims of narcissistic abuse, and attachment issues. 17 years of experience. I am a counselor with the Mount Juliet Counseling Center. I have an MA in Pastoral Care and Counseling and an MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Freed-Hardeman University. I am currently a PhD student at Tennessee Tech University in Counseling and Supervision and pursuing licensure as an LPC-MHSP. I am also a Board Certified Christian Counselor by the AACC, and a National Certified Counselor. I specialize in spiritual issues, grief, and couples counseling. My hope is that every person and couple finds safety and healing during the time we share together.

A sense of personal Agency (meaning your have the ability to affect change in yourself and have control over the immediate future.) I absolutely love exploring these areas with my clients and helping them attain true Wellness in their Mental and Emotional Health.

I have been licensed & practicing since 1995. I provide mental health therapy & also substance abuse therapy to adults. I use evidence based therapeutic techniques. I believe it is important to recognize strengths as well as vulnerabilities. We are all imperfect & survivors. I think the benefits of therapy are perspective, support, accountability, and growth. I think therapy should go beyond insight to include self awareness & ultimately a sense of choice in how we respond to the challenges of life. I can teach skills and techniques that are well grounded in long established & proven approaches.

She has a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University, a Massage Therapy Certificate from Lexington Healing Arts Academy, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia.
